Slowly, Gerald rose up to his feet, still staring at Daven with a death stare.
“Do you think you can trap me this way?” He sneered.
Daven was taken aback, by Gerald’s confidence. It was one thing to hate Daven and it was another to be so confident and feel he wasn't trapped.
However, Daven didn't say a word, wanting to see what he would do next.
“Answer me, you bastard…” Gerald was already rushing at Daven but then he stopped. He recalled how his punch was deflected earlier and he knew he couldn't underestimate Daven anymore.
So, he stood back, “Do you think everything you want will happen? This is the world of the rich, Daven. I will get out of prison before you can think of it.”
Gerald’s bragging stance caused Daven to swallow in anger. He couldn't deny that Gerald was indeed right, after all, Doctor Blackman’s show of anger may be just for the moment.
“I will be back…” Gerald sneered and immediately turned toward the door. Before the police would arrive, he knew he needed to leave. Getting his face plastered on a mugshot wasn't something he wanted.
However, the moment he opened the door, two police officers were right there waiting. A few seconds later, Gerald was being dragged right out of the venue while Doctor Blackman stood back, watching in embarrassment.
Daven could empathize with him, and so, he walked toward him, “I hope you aren't too annoyed, teacher. After all, I am sending your son to prison.”
As Blackman saw Daven approaching, he looked away, with a tired sigh.
“When do you want your father’s surgery? I am going to schedule it and do it for free.” Blackman said.
However, Daven didn't care about free things. He was concerned about one thing.
“I hope you won't help your son, teacher.” He said.
“What do you mean?” Blackman frowned.
“Nothing.” Daven shrugged, sporting a small smile on his face. However, it wasn't humorous, it was giving off a warning.
“I just hope you are an upright man like you acted.” He said before bowing down slightly. Even though Blackman found Daven’s words a bit offensive, he swallowed his anger after all, his son had done wrong.
Before Daven left, they communicated the details of the surgery and by the time Daven was out of there, his phone was already blowing up.
His sister had been trying to get through to him and when he finally connected the call, her shrill voice flowed into his ears.
“Daven, your girlfriend is here.” Her words caused Daven to stay still with a displeased frown.
“She is not my girlfriend.” He hissed.
“Well, she wants to see you. She is causing a ruckus right here in father’s ward. You should solve your personal issues!”
With that, the call ended, and Daven dropped his hands to the side, wondering what she was there for. After his car accident, he had not even seen her and now, she appeared out of nowhere?
Somehow, he felt she was up to no good. Quickly, he rushed to get a cab, going straight to the hospital. When he reached, just like he expected, the wardroom was in disarray and his father was breathing heavily on his bed.
“You are here…” Maya smiled, like an innocent flower, crossing her legs on the couch in the ward. “You don’t look injured from the accident.” She snickered.
Daven couldn't stand her shamelessness and so, he turned to Arya.
“Why the f**k didn't you get her out?” Daven barked at his sister, wondering why she didn't alert the security to get Maya out.
“Well, she is your girlfriend. What did you expect me to do?” Arya shrugged.
Daven palmed his face in disappointment and regret. He recalled how he used to be an advocate for love and he never used to let Arya or his father speak to Maya rudely. He put her on a high pedestal and it landed him in this situation.
“Come with me.” He grabbed Maya and started to lead her straight out. They got to the entrance and he let go of her like hot coal.
“What do you want?” He spat. His eyes shone with hate and deep down he wished he had sent Maya to prison alongside Gerald but he didn't have enough evidence against her.
On the other hand, Maya crossed her arms, staring snarkily at him.
“I heard you got Gerald arrested.” She chuckled.
Daven was taken aback, wondering how she got to know. Gerald wouldn't be able to contact her from the police cell, right?”
“I know you are wondering why I got to know. But you shouldn't worry too much…” She chuckled, again before a wicked look appeared in her eyes. “But you would start to worry if you do not drop your charges against him.”
“Are you here to threaten me because of your lover?” Daven stalked her, his gaze chilling.
Maya felt fear creep into her and she took steps back, wondering why Daven was so different. However, she had to deliver what she was there for…
“My lover, Gerald, asked me to show you this…” She hurriedly took out her phone and flashed a picture in his face.
Immediately Daven saw that his gaze fell. He looked terrible.
