Chapter Seven

Lena' POV I lie curled on the edge with the blankets tangled around my legs and Luca’s words still ringing in my skull. Sex toy. The coldness of it, the way it had slithered from his lips like a well-practiced insult made me feel smaller than the space I occupied. I should be sleeping but instead my fingers twist in the sheets restlessly. How did I get here? The question keeps echoing in my head. One wrong step, one desperate choice, and now I’m trapped in this nightmare. Sighing, I push myself up and pad barefoot across the room. My gaze drifts to the paintings those eerie, lifelike portraits of women staring back at me. One in particular makes my skin prickle. A faceless woman, seated in a chair with her posture poised yet hollow. She has no mouth, no eyes, but I feel her watching. Judging. Like me. Voiceless. Helpless. I step closer with fingers hovering just above the canvas. The brushstrokes are delicate and almost too perfect. “What did he do to you?” I whisper. No answer. Just the usual silence. A faint noise jolts me… a whisper of movement outside the door then nothing. I freeze. The hallway beyond this room is supposed to be empty at night. Luca isn’t home. Maria and Hugo wouldn’t be creeping around. I tiptoe to the door and press my ear against it. Silence. Then another scrape. Like something being dragged. My pulse kicks. I crack the door open, just an inch. Darkness. Emptiness. I let out a slow breath, ready to close it… A shadow flickers at the end of the hall butt gone before I blink. “Hello?” My voice is barely a whisper. No response. I shut the door, pressing my back against it, scanning the room behind the curtains, inside the wardrobe. Nothing. But the sensation lingers like eyes on my skin and breath against my neck. I don’t sleep. Not really. *** Morning light sneaks in through the curtains. I must have dozed, because the knock at the door startles me awake. Maria enters with her usual quiet precision with silver tray balanced and her posture rigid. She sets breakfast on the table, smooths the napkin and doesn’t even glance at me. I stare at the untouched food. “He didn’t come.” I Said. She doesn’t answer. Just adjusts the napkin, aligns the fork. “Maria.” A pause. Then, without looking up she speaks. “He’s a busy man. He doesn’t always come.” “And that’s supposed to make me feel better?” I snapped. She finally meets my eyes. “It’s not meant to make you feel anything. It’s just the truth.” I clench my fists in my lap. “Right. The truth.” I snarled. She stands perfectly still with her hands folded over her apron like she’s waiting for me to break. So I ask.. “How long have you worked here?” “Long enough.” “Do you like it?” Her gaze flickers just for a second toward the faceless portrait. Then back to me. “It doesn’t matter if I like it. We all play our roles.” Roles. Like we’re characters in Luca’s sick little play. I want to push her. Demand answers. But she turns to leave before I can. Then, at the threshold, she stops. “Don’t let the silence get to you,” she murmurs, so quietly I almost miss it. “He'll be home soon.” The door clicks shut behind her. I was bored to death and I needed to at least do something! I walked back and forth in Luca's enormous bedroom, feeling a mix of different thoughts swirling around in my mind. It was hard for me to believe that I had actually said yes to this situation becoming Luca's personal s*x toy. But I felt like I didn't have much of a choice. I had to either give in to what he wanted or face the terrible possibility of being tortured by his henchman, Hugo. If I didn't comply, I would be tortured, and that was something I desperately wanted to avoid. I found myself in a situation where I felt completely trapped and totally defeated. Letting out a deep sigh, I took a moment to run my fingers through my short, dark hair as I tried to collect my thoughts. As I looked around the fancy room that I was in, I noticed the large king-size bed, the beautiful and expensive pieces of artwork hanging on the walls and the shiny, polished hardwood floors that reflected the light. All of it made me feel like I didn’t belong there at all. It was as if I were a tiny mouse amid a great big lion's den surrounded by creatures far more powerful and intimidating than I could ever be. Feeling a bit uneasy and out of sorts, I decided to leave the room without making any noise. I thought it would be a good idea to take a look around the rest of the huge mansion while I had the opportunity. However, the mansion was so incredibly large and filled with an endless number of long hallways and beautifully decorated furniture that I quickly became completely lost. I kept wandering through one wrong hallway after another, trying to find my way, but only becoming more confused. “Hello? Is there anyone here?” I called out, feeling my voice bounce back to me in the strange, quiet atmosphere. “I’m really lost!” I did not get any answer at all. I continued to walk around aimlessly, and my low-heeled shoes made a clicking sound as they hit the marble tiles of the floor. Out of nowhere, I almost bumped into the maid. She was moving quickly as she rounded the corner, and I barely had time to step aside to avoid running into her. “Oh! I’m really sorry.” I said quickly, trying to regain my balance and steady myself. The maid looked at me with a strong, piercing gaze, her hands placed firmly on her wide hips. She spoke in a stern voice, saying “What are you doing outside of your room, miss? Senior Luca instructed you to stay there and wait for him!” My heart jumped up into my throat, making me feel nervous. I hesitated for a moment before speaking, saying “I... I was just trying to find the bathroom.” I felt frustrated and upset about my bad luck in this situation. “There's no wandering around here, do you understand?” the maid said sharply. “You come over here.” She beckoned to me with her finger in a demanding way. With some hesitation, I followed closely behind the very particular and demanding woman until we finally arrived at the door to Luca's bedroom. She pointed with authority and said “In. Now.” The maid then hurried me inside the room, not being very gentle about it at all, and she closed the door firmly behind us with a loud click…
