The journey to the Eclipse pack settlement took two long hours. As we arrived, I noticed people gathering to welcome their Alpha.
They seemed genuinely happy to see him, and it baffled me how anyone could feel such affection for someone as cruel as Alpha Adam. Once the car stopped, I was escorted out and led into what appeared to be the Packhouse.
The settlement itself was beautiful, and the Packhouse was grander and more lavish than anything in my own pack.
I was struck by the size and opulence of it all. A maid took me upstairs, and my heart pounded in fear, expecting to be taken to Alpha Adam’s room. But to my surprise, she led me to a small, unremarkable room. The space was modest, and the furniture was simple—nothing like the grandeur of the rest of the house.
"Someone will bring in your luggage," the maid said before leaving.
I was about to explain that I hadn’t brought any luggage when two men entered with four large travelling bags. The bags still had tags on them, and it was clear they were brand new.
Once they left me alone, I sat on the bed, trying to make sense of everything. My stomach growled loudly, reminding me of how hungry I was.
I didn’t want to leave the room, afraid of overstepping my bounds in this unfamiliar place, so I stayed put. After about an hour, there was a knock at the door. I called out for them to come in, and to my relief, they brought food.
The sight of the meal made me realise just how hungry I was. The portions were large, more than I could finish, but I was grateful they hadn’t left me to starve.
Before they left, I asked if I could get a charger for my phone. One of the maids promised to bring one soon, giving me a small sense of comfort in this strange new world.
The maid kept her promise and brought me a charger. Once my phone was charged, I immediately called my father, desperate to hear a familiar voice.
"Daddy, how are you?" I asked, my voice soft, trying to keep my emotions in check. Hearing him on the other end brought a small sense of comfort.
"I'm okay, sweetie. How is he treating you?" my father asked, his voice full of concern.
"I haven't seen the Alpha yet," I replied, the words sounding strange even to my own ears. How could I be married to someone and not even have seen him since the wedding?
"He’s put me in charge of our pack," my father said, and I could hear a mixture of pride and resignation in his voice.
"I’m to report to him and not make any decisions without his approval. I guess he took you with him for insurance." His words made me feel a mix of relief and sadness—relief that my father still held some dignity and authority, but sadness that I was being used as a pawn.
We talked for a bit longer, and I promised to call him often. After we said our goodbyes, I found myself alone once again in the small room that was now mine.
The day dragged on, and I spent it entirely in the room.
Claire, my wolf, was restless and wanted to go on a run, but I was too unfamiliar with the territory to risk it.
The thought of wandering into enemy land and getting into trouble kept me in place. I ate dinner in the room, the silence around me growing heavier with each passing hour.
Eventually, I decided to go through the luggage that had been brought in. As I opened each bag, I found them filled with new items.
One was stocked with toiletries, cosmetics, and lingerie; another with casual wear and nightwear. The third bag held outfits meant for formal occasions, and the last was packed with shoes, bags, and purses. I methodically arranged everything in the wardrobe, trying to keep my mind occupied, but the sense of isolation and uncertainty lingered.
With nothing else to do, I turned to the television, something I rarely did. But now, it seemed like the only distraction available.
I flipped through the channels, trying to find something that could hold my interest. Eventually, I settled on a game show. It was dull, but it was the best option I could find. I deliberately avoided anything romantic. The last thing I wanted was to be reminded of the love and happiness that would likely never be a part of my life now.
As I sat there, watching the mindless entertainment on the screen, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of loss. My life had changed so drastically in such a short time, and there was nothing I could do to reclaim what had been taken from me.
