12 No Mercy

Elsa The next morning, I heard a knock on my door, sharp and insistent. I rushed to see who it was, yanking the door open to find the brown-haired man who had stood in for Alpha Adam during the wedding standing there. I assumed he was Alpha Adam’s beta, though I couldn’t have cared less about his title at the moment. “What do you want?” I snapped, trying to sound as disinterested as possible. “Good morning, Elsa. I’m Beta Kane,” he said with a polite smile, though his eyes betrayed a hint of something more. I already knew who he was, but I wasn’t inclined to see him as someone important to me. “What do you want?” I repeated more curtly this time.” He wast going to acll me Luna and I wasn’t going to call him Beta. It was fair.” His smile only widened, and there was a flicker in his eyes that made me uneasy. It was clear he had news I probably wouldn’t like. “Alpha asked me to train you,” he said, his tone matter-of-fact. My frown deepened as I processed his words. Why on earth would Alpha want him to train me? I was already a skilled warrior. I didn't need anyone telling me how to fight. “For what?” I demanded, frustration creeping into my voice. “Get ready. Training starts now. Meet me in the training room,” he instructed, turning away with an air of finality. I was seething. Who did he think he was, coming here and giving me orders like that? “Tell your Alpha to come and get me himself!” I shouted after him, slamming the door shut with a resounding thud. I slumped onto my bed, my anger bubbling beneath the surface. Why was Adam pushing my buttons so relentlessly? Why couldn’t he just leave me alone and let me be? The weight of my situation pressed down on me, making me feel trapped and uneasy. As I sat there, lost in my thoughts, a voice cut through the haze of my frustration. It was Adam’s intrusive voice, piercing through the silence in my head. “What do you think you’re doing?” he demanded, his tone sharp and commanding. “What does it look like?” I retorted, my frustration seeping into my response. "Get dressed and meet Kane in the training room now!" Alpha Adam commanded, his voice carrying the weight of his authority. But I was well-practiced in resisting such forceful demands. “Unless he’s going to screw me, then he has nothing to teach me,” I shot back, trying to mask my growing unease with defiance. Silence followed, and I took it as a sign that I had won this round. I grabbed the yoghurt from the breakfast tray that had been left for me and savoured its cool, creamy taste as a small reward. Just as I was starting to relax, the door burst open with a violent crash. Instinctively, I dropped into a fighting stance, my teeth bared and claws extended, growling defensively. When I saw Alpha Adam standing in the doorway, my growl turned into a gasp of shock. "I can’t believe you broke the lock," I said, trying to mask my fear with irritation. The anger in his eyes made my heart race. I attempted to back away, but the room offered little space for escape. His fury was palpable, and I felt a cold sweat break out on my skin. Without a word, Alpha Adam grabbed me and slammed me against the wall. He held me firmly, though he tried to keep his grip as gentle as possible. My terror grew as tears welled up in my eyes. I stared at him, my fear clear in every trembling breath I took. His gaze was a storm of rage, unyielding and intense. “How long do you plan to keep disrespecting me?” he demanded, his voice like thunder. I was momentarily speechless, my defiance faltering under the weight of his anger. But I managed to find my voice, though it quivered. “I’m not a slave you can order around,” I said, trying to summon whatever courage I had left. “As much as it pains me to say this, I am your wife and should be the Luna. Yet, you’ve chosen to demean and belittle me. I’m not part of your pack, so I don’t see why I should have to train with them.” His frustration seemed to hit a boiling point, and he pulled away slightly, brushing his fingers through his hair in exasperation. A bitter laugh escaped his lips, but there was no warmth in it—just a harsh, mocking edge. "You must be a joke, Elsa Davis. Everyone here can defend themselves. Everyone except you. I don’t need a liability around me," Alpha Adam said, his voice dripping with contempt. His words stung, igniting a fire of anger within me. "I didn’t need any of you to help me handle the rogue that attacked me the other night," I retorted, my voice sharp with indignation. "Exactly. You nearly died dealing with just one rogue," he countered, dismissing my effort as if it were trivial. I took a step closer, meeting his gaze with a fiery determination. "If you’d done your job as an Alpha properly, you’d know that it wasn’t just any rogue—it was an Alpha breed that had gone rogue. And despite being blindsided, I survived. Don’t underestimate me, Alpha Adam. I’m nothing like my father. I am not an advocate for peace." He was momentarily taken aback by my fierce response but quickly regained his composure. "Get dressed and go to training," he ordered, this time without the commanding Alpha tone. I suspect he knew it was useless on me. I’d just fight it. "Like I said, Alpha, unless Kane is going to give me some screwing lessons, I’m not interested," I said defiantly, sitting down at the foot of my bed. I could feel the adrenaline still coursing through me, heightening my resolve. Without another word, he came over, picked me up, and carried me out of the room. I knew that struggling would be pointless, so I settled on his shoulder, trying to make the best of the bumpy ride. When we reached a hall full of people, he set me down and announced, "Elsa Davis thinks she’s too skilled to train with us!" A wave of shame washed over me. I had expected this conversation to remain private, but now it was being aired in front of everyone. I glared at him, feeling deeply betrayed. "What do you think we should do about this proud wolf?" he asked the gathered crowd. Silence met his question, a heavy, uncomfortable pause. "Very well," he finally said. "James and Levi," he called, and two men with dangerous, intimidating expressions stepped forward. "Shift and teach this wolf a lesson," Alpha Adam ordered, stepping back to watch the scene unfold. Claire’s eyes blazed with anger, her posture tense as if she were ready to spring into action. I could feel my own anger bubbling up, manifesting physically as my claws extended, my teeth lengthened, and a growl rumbled from my throat. I was furious at Alpha Adam for turning this into a public spectacle, trying to humiliate me. I refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing me falter. “Show no mercy!” I heard Alpha Adam’s voice ring out, his command slicing through the air. The shock and concern among some of the pack members were palpable; I could hear their murmurs and gasps. His words only fueled my resolve. Claire and I were outsiders here, and we needed to fight with everything we had. The fact that he’d set up this fight against two strong wolves, clearly intent on winning this argument at any cost, only solidified my determination. I wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of seeing me back down. My body was still aching from the previous night, but I channelled that pain into fierce anger, ready to unleash it on these two challengers. Half shifted, I could sense Claire’s frustration mirrored in her growl, and the two men facing us responded with matching snarls. They were a fearsome sight with their eyes glowing yellow, indicating their wolves were fully present and ready for battle. One men moved to my left, the other to my right. I braced myself as their powerful forms shifted, their jaws snapping open and their claws poised to strike. With a deep, primal growl of my own, I prepared to face them. Their attack was swift and coordinated; the weight of their combined force bore down on me. I met their assault head-on, channeling my anger and frustration into every move. The fight was fierce, each clash echoing with the raw energy of our struggle. I wasn’t just fighting to win; I was fighting to prove a point, to show Alpha Adam that I was not to be underestimated. The outcome of this battle was more than just a display of strength—it was a declaration of my resilience and refusal to be broken.
