Today marked my twentieth birthday, but I barely felt the excitement or joy that should accompany such a milestone. My father had called to wish me a happy birthday, but his words felt hollow amidst the emptiness that surrounded me. Turning twenty without a mate was a significant issue, and here I was, facing it alone. I hesitated about joining the pack for breakfast in the dining hall.
