The Path Of No Return

"The moment he appeared, I felt relieved. 'What are you doing here?' I asked. 'How dare you touch her?' he asked Amanda. "It's been a long time, Lord Rings," Amanda said with sarcasm laced in her tone. "You didn't show your face for decades, but you show up because of her." He stared at me, and I glared at him, feeling sorry for him seeing me in such a state. He held me up and transferred some energy into me, and the pain from Amanda's spear began to subside, and the wound began to heal rapidly. I stared at him, but he was seriously transferring his energy. Amanda hurled her spear at him, and I stared at it, making it freeze in mid-air, falling to the ground as broken shards. "No!" she screamed, and I stared at her, though I felt slight pain, but she had tested my patience. "Lavender!" she screamed in agony, and I just stared at her. I turned to look at him; he gave me a glance and stared at Amanda back. Spears from different corners were hurled at us, but they were suspended in thin air. He smiled, and the spears formed a barrier around us. "Amanda, it's a pity you didn't change after all these years," he said. "Lord Rings, you didn't change a bit either; you're still good at manipulating others," she replied back. "You don't love Lavender, do you?" she asked, and I stared at him. "If I said I love her, I would be a liar," he replied, "but one thing is sure: I sought her company." "That's because you need her," she replied. "Enough of your gibberish," he said, raising his hands slowly, and the aura around us smelled of power. He absorbed the power from the spear into his body and I stared in awe. "He is taking their power, which was existing in the sword," I thought. "Majority had half of their power wielded in their weapons. If he breaks it, half of their power returns to them, but he is absorbing it; they are losing half of their power. In a day, it will be hard to recuperate." I stared at him, wanting to stop him, but I couldn't; my body felt numb. They all cowered back in fear, retreating back into their territory. "I won't forgive you, Lavender," Amanda said. "You surely will pay." I stood there, watching her in pain. I never bargained for this. He held me in his embrace, and in no time, we were in his room. I stared at him as he majestically went to his bed to sit, as if nothing had happened. I sat on the sofa, full of regrets for what had happened to Amanda's people, but I also appreciated him for what he did, and I couldn't bring myself to scold him. "You are angry with me," he said, looking at me. "No," I replied, avoiding his gaze. "Then look at me," he said. I stared at him and back at the floor, breathing out heavily. "Look at me, Lavender," he said, close to me. I stared at him, trying to maintain eye contact. "You did nothing wrong," he said with a reassuring tone, and I stared at him. "If you want to blame someone, then put it all on me. I am not sorry for what I had done, and I don't regret it one bit. I would do it a thousand times if chances were given; I would do it again and again without delay." "Would you do it over and over because it's me, or would you do it for everyone in time of need?" I asked, piqued with curiosity. "What do you think?" he asked. "Do you think I'm some kind of charity giver or what?" he said, standing up and making his way to the window. "Then do you like me?" I asked, standing up from the sofa. He gave me a glance and turned back towards the window. "Do you wish for that?" he asked. "Answer me," I retorted. "I thought you were head over heels with Derek," he asked, turning to face me. "You are being manipulative," I said. He teleported to where I was, and I must say, I was frightened, and I couldn't hide it. "Scared?" he asked. "So am I, giving my heart to a lady," he said, turning away. "I don't believe in love; I believe in sacrifice," he said. "What exactly do you want from me?" I asked. "Nothing much but you," he replied. "You absorb the mechanism power of this castle; that's why you are formidable among your counterparts," I said. " "I see your power is in consumable, as you share energy source with the castle," I said. "Since when did you know?" he asked, his eyes shining a bit red and returning to black. His composure was intact. "Lord Rings",Is that your name?" I asked. "Does it seem to?" he asked, giving me a calm but piercing stare. I took a breath and sat on the sofa. "It's a title. My name... people who know my real name are long gone," he said sarcastically. "This is a chess board where you play pawns to protect the king, but you fail to remember a knight isn't to be kept close in a territory. Your plans seem to play accordingly, which is to say you got a backup, and that backup must be an insider." "What makes you think so?" he asked giving me a stare "You think you are smart. You seem to know much, things you shouldn't he said, walking towards me, his steps slow but steady. I must have been a target, and now I'm a pawn in your hand, who you chess around in your board. So what! If you are a pawn being chess around in my board, I didn't discard you; rather, you are a pawn I want to save dearly and promote." "Promote, you say, to what precisely?" I asked. "A knight, bishop, or queen, what precisely?" I replied. He held me with both of his hands fiercely and stared into my eyes with the most piercing look I had ever seen. "I don't know what you are aiming at, but remember, all peasants on the chessboard are all pawns to save or help checkmate the king, regardless of who you feel is high or low; each serves a purpose, small or big, that remains the same: they shield the king." "I see! But I refuse to be a pawn that shields the king. If it were possible for there to be two kings, I would have loved to be a king alongside you, but that's not possible, so I chose to be a pawn you can't wield," I said, staring into his eyes. "I don't know what you lost over the years that made you the beast you've become, but I believe: no monster was born, it's created," I said, finally removing his hand from my shoulders and walking past him towards the kitchen. "But you were born one," he said, making me stop in my tracks. "Your birth brought about disasters; people died the moment you were born. But you know what? A baby is always going to be innocent. The fact was that your power was..." He stopped, making me turn immediately to stare at him. "You must know a lot about me, but the fact remains the same: no monster was born, it's created," I said, walking away to the kitchen. "No monster was born; they are created. I thought of that when a thought struck my mind. So, in my case, then it's from my parents. I heard my birth mom died and was a princess, so ultimately, I'm from a royal lineage. Dad was a Duke, and his mom was a powerful lady from an unknown lineage. Royal blood has one of the most powerful lineages, but Dad's lineage is unknown. That's the source of my calamity; that's why he was the only one who could seal me." "I must go back to my hometown," I thought, and decided to head back to the room. He was pacing back and forth at the window, but when he noticed my presence, he stopped and glared at me, never taking his eyes off. I walked to the bed and sat in it. "I want to go back to my hometown. Why ? he asked I should let you know why, I asked, 'Nothing gives you such right. If I told you it was my plan, you go there. What would you do?' he asked "I don't care, it's what I choose for myself. I don't care about Lord Rings, who is manipulative. All I want is freedom from such accusations." "You go nowhere; I will take care and look after you," he said authoritatively. "I'm no tool, pawn, or slave you toss or use at your beckon. I go when I say, I stay when I say. No one will choose for me; when I say noone that includes you." "Remember, when you hold on to something so tight, you may develop a fear of losing it. What you want to protect becomes your greatest interest I said, sounding like a warning". Do you think you stand a chance to a duel with me?" he asked. "No, I replied. But in every fight, there is a weakness, either from the person practicing the technique or from the technique itself. When they said two heads are better than one, they aren't mistaken, but one fact remains the same: two things can't be perfect; one has to be imperfect, and the other is perfect, or both are imperfect." "I see you have something in mind that you want to achieve, and you also seem to be giving a warning," he said, and I stared at him. "Fine, I will let you go, but you will do something in return: you mustn't call me Lord Rings again," he said . Here is the corrected text: "It isn't something hard," I said casually. "Tomorrow, I'm leaving," I said, lying on the sofa He stared at me, and I turned to back him. I heard his retreating steps towards the bed. I was lost in my thoughts, and my eyes became so heavy that I closed them, drifting into my slumber. I woke up to find myself on him, wrapped within a bedcover. I was shocked, and I nearly screamed, but what made me scream was when I looked up at his face to see if he was sleeping and found him staring right back at me. I stood up immediately. "What is wrong with you? Why do you bring me to sleep in the same bed as you? Don't you have shame?" I asked. "But you were the one hugging me so tightly throughout the night," he replied. "Damn, exactly why did you bring me to sleep here with you? You are taking advantage of me," I said. "Leave this arguing ,you have something much more important to attend to." I headed for my room, took my shower, got dressed, and did the necessary tasks to be done in the room and left. I headed for the castle gate, navigating each security point with no scrutiny. I turned one last time to take a look at the castle, remembering the day I came with Derek. I haven't seen him in a while now, but when I'm back, I will come look for him again. After weeks of journey to my hometown, I finally arrived, and what I saw was an eyesore. I decided to find a shelter to stay at the outskirts when I sensed an arrow being hurled at me. I turned immediately, and it fell to the ground. "Lavender, I thought you were long gone," my stepmom asked. "No, I'm back for my revenge..."
