A Glimpse Of Truth

Upon regaining consciousness, I sensed an unprecedented surge of power coursing through my veins. My abilities had multiplied exponentially. "I must have tapped into a deep reserve," I thought, curiosity getting the better of me. Memories of the previous events flooded back. "I iced him." A hoarse voice echoed from the shadows, "The barrier has strengthened by a quarter of its original size." "Her power is remarkably potent," the voice continued. "She didn't even unleash her full potential, yet the barrier enhanced significantly." "How did she manage to ice Denmark?" another voice asked. Derek responded, "The power she released was colossal, fueled by her intense hatred. The barrier couldn't absorb it all in time, and Denmark got encased in ice from the residual energy." A chilling realization dawned on me. "I feel as though I'm already doomed," Derek said, resignation etched in his tone. "Legend foretold of a child born to defeat me, and I'd be powerless to stop it. I've come to witness my demise, powerless to intervene." The hoarse voice spoke again, "The ritual will commence on the blood moon, at month's end." Derek acknowledged, "Yes, my lord." The next day, Derek entered my chambers, concern etched on his face. "Are you okay?" he asked, approaching me. I sat motionless on my bed, my gaze fixed intently on him. "A lot of entities were absorbed from you yesterday," Derek said, his expression thoughtful. I nodded, still processing the events. "But you iced him," he added, his eyes locked onto mine. I felt a surge of concern. "Did he die?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Derek shook his head. "No, he was only encased in ice." A pang of pain shot through me. Derek's expression softened. "Let's take a walk," he suggested. I stared at him, perplexed by the sudden change in atmosphere. As we strolled through the castle grounds, Derek turned to me. "My name is Derek," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "What's yours?" he asked, his gaze holding mine. I raised an eyebrow, wary of his sudden interest. "You never cared to know my name all this time," I said, my tone laced with skepticism. "It was as if I didn't exist. Why now?" Derek chuckled, a low, soothing sound. "Perhaps I've come to realize the importance of knowing those around me." We had arrived at the garden, its beauty a stark contrast to the turmoil within me. Derek halted beside the majestic rose bush, its blooms a vibrant mix of colors. "This rose evokes both painful and cherished memories," he said, his gaze introspective. I stared at him, surprised by his vulnerability. He turned to me, his expression serious. "Next time, no matter the circumstance, call my name. I'll be there to help. Please, don't harness your power like that again." I averted my gaze, pretending indifference, and focused on the rose. Its delicate petals seemed to whisper secrets. "Derek," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Do you know what lavender symbolizes?" Derek's eyes narrowed slightly, intrigued. "Lavender? It's a flower, but what does it represent?" I turned to him, my gaze meeting his. "That's precisely what I'm wondering." "A flower," Derek replied, his expression puzzled. I leaned in, my gaze intense. "No, what does it symbolize?" Derek's eyes locked onto mine, his thoughts seemingly elsewhere. "Lavender represents calmness, serenity, and devotion," he said finally, his voice low. I nodded, a hint of a smile on my lips. "I possess a power that replenishes immediately after use," I revealed, gauging his reaction. Derek's brow furrowed. "That sounds remarkable, but don't you think it's also perilous? As beneficial as it seems, it must have drawbacks." I shook my head. "I was assured it wouldn't affect me, that I could live a normal life span, just like everyone else." Derek's expression turned contemplative. "That's reassuring, but are you certain? Absolute power often comes with unseen consequences." I locked eyes with him. "You don't have to worry about me," I said confidently. "I can take care of myself." He raised an eyebrow. "Have I ever told you this?" I mirrored his gaze, intrigued. "What?" His expression remained unreadable, but his intense stare seemed to convey a hidden message. "You take things to heart; you could get deceived," he warned, his voice low. I smiled wistfully, memories of my past flooding back. "I must be really vulnerable," I said, my tone laced with self-awareness. He shook his head. "No, you can be heartless and still show pity. Leaders should possess such character, but don't you think it's imposing?" I chuckled, recognizing the subtle compliment. "Are you complimenting me?" I asked, my eyes sparkling with amusement. His gaze lingered, and for a moment, I sensed a genuine connection. "May I venture beyond the castle walls for a walk?" I inquired, my piercing gaze holding his. Derek's eyes sparkled. "We can, if you wish." "It's all I wish for," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. Derek's face lit up with a radiant smile. He leaned in, his proximity sending shivers down my spine. "Did you plan to make my day?" he asked, his voice low and playful. I shook my head. "No." "But I want to make it a memorable one," Derek whispered, his eyes crinkling at the corners. I nodded, my heart skipping a beat. We were accompanied by guards to the city square, the bustling atmosphere enveloping us. As we strolled down the cobblestone streets, silence stretched between us, but our eyes feasted on the vibrant scenery. I glanced at Derek and caught him gazing at me with an endearing smile. However, when our eyes met, he chuckled and pretended to be captivated by a nearby vendor. Breaking the silence, I pointed at a colorful candy store. "I want that," I said, my finger directed at the assortment of sweets. Derek raised an eyebrow. "Are you a kid?" he teased. I smiled mischievously. "Not usually, but if being one guarantees you'll buy me some, I don't mind." Derek's laughter echoed through the streets. "I suppose I can make an exception." "You're going to eat a lot of candies," Derek said, playfully dragging his fingers across my cheeks, leaving a trail of gentle touches. I savored the sweet treat, nibbling it little by little. "You don't want one?" I asked, my mouth still occupied with the candy. Derek smirked. "It's not like you want to share yours," he teased. I chuckled, handing him a candy from the bag. "Here, have your own." "No thanks," Derek said, declining the offer. I mischievously stuffed the candy into his mouth anyway. His eyes widened in surprise, but then he couldn't help but chuckle. He held the candy stick and savored the flavor. As I licked my own candy, a young girl with big, curious eyes ran toward me, fixated on the treats in my hands. She stretched out her small hands, and I met Derek's gaze, silently pleading with him to buy one for her. Without hesitation, Derek purchased another candy and handed it to the girl. "Show it to your mom before you eat it, okay?" he said with a smile. The girl's face fell, and she looked down. "I have no mom," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. My heart ached at her words. Before she could dart away, Derek knelt beside her. "Here, take another one for your favorite person, then." The girl's face lit up, and she grasped the additional candy. "Thank you!" she exclaimed, running off with a renewed sense of joy. Derek stood, his eyes locked onto mine. "You're using your candy-sharing tactics to melt my heart, aren't you?" he teased. "You stared at me as if I'd done something remarkable," Derek said, his eyes sparkling with amusement. I couldn't help but smile, feeling a sense of warmth and connection. As we strolled through the streets, returning to the castle, we admired the scenery and engaged in casual conversation from time to time. Upon our arrival, I felt a pang of unease, sensing I'd be confined once more. However, I had no choice but to enter. After the usual security procedures, we were granted access, and I promptly made my way to my room. My assigned maids followed closely behind. As I ventured into the dimly lit hallway, I collided with a towering, sturdy figure clad in a black hood. His aura felt oppressive, radiating an unsettling energy. I recoiled, but he remained still, his gaze fixed on me. Though his face was obscured, I sensed an unnerving connection. It was as if he could see through me, intuiting my every sensation. His presence was disconcerting, and I attempted to walk past him, but my feet felt rooted to the spot. I turned to glance at my maids, but they had vanished into thin air. A shiver ran down my spine as I faced the mysterious figure once more. "So, it's you again," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. The figure remained silent, his gaze never wavering. The air was thick with tension as we stood there, locked in a silent standoff.
