“Dad, did Mrs. Peterson call you yet?” Ryan gave his father a worried look.
I served Ryan his breakfast while packing his school lunchbox. The morning so far had been a roller-coaster ride getting Ryan ready for school.
I was surprised to see this side of Damien’s nature for the first time. He didn’t panic the way I did.
“Who’s Mrs. Peterson?” I watched Ryan smack his forehead.
“The class teacher of 1B, of my school, Rochester Academy! She wants to meet my parents. My classmates and their parents are going. Can you please be my mommy and meet her?” Ryan gave me a pleading look.
Damien sighed and helped himself to a second cup of coffee. “I’ll have a word with Everly.”
“No. She’s not my mom. I don’t want her to meet Mrs. Peterson, ever!” The fierceness in Ryan’s tone shock
