Chapter 17 | Zain

1414 Words
Zain Zain glanced at the clock, for the millionth time in the past hour. It was one at night, and sleep was nowhere around the corner for him. He was desperately waiting for someone. And that someone is a workaholic, apparently, much to his dismay. He had almost given up his hope that she would come back home but he knew that Kiara won't disappoint him this time. She would never back down from her word. She will come. He was certain. He heard the knob of his door click and quickly got up, putting aside his laptop. His song was edited long time ago, so he was just looking into the other songs he had written previously. He felt his pain and loneliness when he read through all of them, remembering the times when he had composed them. Horrible flashes of his beatings appeared in his minds and he went numb. No matter what he couldn't escape them. Even though he reminded himself to be brave, he just couldn't get past them. They were like a part of them he absolutely loathed. Due to his state, he didn't notice Kiara walking into his room in the dress she was wearing at his office. It appeared she had just come back home from the office. The clicking sound of her heels bought him back from his thoughts, his attention now drifting to the beautiful girl in front of her. "You are here." he says, breaking the silence. "Something's wrong, Zain. What happened?" she asked. Zain was shocked, did she know him that good? How could she have guessed? Was he that easy to read? He watched her taking off her dress and heels, his eyes admiring her every curve and detail. This girl never ceased to excite him. She was like a new morning to his night. Every day she gave him a reason to wake up from the bed. He watched as she approached him, her eyes never leaving his. He couldn't figure out what she was thinking. "Why aren't you asleep?" she asked him. Zain gulped, how is supposed to answer her? He couldn't lie to her, she would see through it without any doubt. He couldn't hide anything from him. Zain felt her hand through his hair, the action calming him down to some extent. But the flashes didn't seam to leave his mind. He wanted nothing more to get them out of his brain and just be in the moment with Kiara. He watched as she sat on his lap, her legs wrapping around his waist and her hands around his neck. Her serious expression doesn't leave her face and he hated that he was the reason for it. He wanted nothing but to see that dazzling smile on her face. "Talk to me, Zain. I know about my nightmares." she says and Zain could feel his eyes widen. She knew? That meant she cared. His heart fluttered, it's been a while since he had been taken care of. Even with Nikita, it was always about her. Not that he actually minded it since he was quite used to the treatment. But this? This was new. And somewhat, comforting. Zain rested his head on her shoulder, caressing her hair. Their position felt natural, like they were the only one in this world. He drifted to the smell of rose emitting from her. She smelt like a field of roses, reminding him of his mother's favorite place - her rose garden. She never let anyone enter the garden and even Zain wasn't allowed. He smiled at the memory. "I like your smell." he says, as he nuzzled more into her wrong. "Are you smelling me, Zain?" Kiara chuckles as her hands continue to massage his hair. He loved the feeling of it. He never wanted her to stop. "Talk to me, Zain. Please." she whispers in his ears. Zain sighs. She deserved to know, more than anything. Will she leave him when she realizes he is not as strong as she think he is? She deserves better, after all. He looks her in her eyes, seeing the softness in them. He could see her defenses lowering down for him. She was surrendering to him. As he had surrendered to her. "I... My stepmother used to abuse me. She used to beat me. Well, her brother used to. They will lock me up in my room for days without food and water if I ever complained. She knew that... my d-dad was handing all the business to me, leaving nothing for her and her son. So, she did this.... a-and..." Zain chocked out, remembering the pain he had felt. Those memories were in no way pleasant. His scars will never leave his body, they will be the constant reminder of the weakness he had felt when he couldn't fight them back. He felt Kiara trace her fingers through his scars, her soft hands running through every one of them. She was gentle, it was as if she was scared of hurting him. "You don't have to continue, Zain." she says, her eyes reflecting pain. He hated seeing that, she didn't deserve his burden. "Please... don't cry. I don't want to see tears in your beautiful eyes, angel." he says. "I am fine, love. I am fine. It's you who I am worried about." she replies. His heart swelled with love and pride. This beautiful woman cared for him, she didn't let go of him even though she knew the truth about him. She is a blessing in disguise of an angel. Her darkness didn't scare him for he knew that there was some light left in her heart. He could see that in her grey eyes. "I will be fine, angel. You don't need to worry." he says, tracing her face with his fingers. "I will always be worried about you. I am glad that I gave that b***h hell. She deserved it. I will get the brother soon enough. Put a bullet in his damn face." she replies, her face turning to that of anger and disgust. Zain was on alert, he didn't want her killing anyone for him. He hated it, a person must die when the fate has decided it for him and not when another person wants them to. Moreover he hated covering Kiara's hand in blood. She doesn't deserve this life of murdering people. He wanted nothing but her innocent self back. "No killing, love. Let them be." he tells her, wishing to calm her down. "I hate when people prey on innocent people. They did this to you, Zain. I am no way in hell letting them enjoy their lives! So, when I said it, I will do it." she says, the coldness reappearing in her eyes.  It worried the extent she would go to for him. It scared him, to be honest but he knew he can't change her. She was a part of it now, and no matter how much he wanted her innocent self back she was long gone. "O-Okay." he replies, his voice shuttering. "Okay?" she replies, puzzled. "Yeah. Do whatever you deem fit, angel. But please, I think killing them is a bit extreme." he replies. Her eyes soften back again, her anger disappearing. "I scared you, han? I am sorry." she says. Zain chuckles, she really was cute. Yes, her behavior was uncertain, heck, everything about her was uncertain but that's what attracted him to her. She was the dose he needed. "Ya, I hate it when you go all mafia boss on me." he replies. She frowns, her cute pout encouraging him to kiss her senseless. All the previous gloomy was now forgotten, his worries gone. She made him comfortable and carefree. "Whatever, I can't help it. But Zain, I.... I just want to say that you aren't weak. You are the strongest person I know for enduring everything they had put you through all these years. Your nightmares don't make you weak, in fact they just say that even those horrendous memories can't let you down because every morning you wake up, I see that smile on your face and the will to fight the f*****g world. So, never ever hide from me." she says. Their foreheads touch and Zain couldn't be more happy to be with her. She was the strength he needed, the stars to his dark sky. "You are just amazing, angel." he tells her. "I know, love. Now it's sleep time. Come on." she says. They both lie down, Kiara wrapping one of her hand over his waist and the other one still massaging his scalp. He pulls her closer, his chin resting on her head. He puts one of his leg over hers. "Goodnight, Zain." he says. "Goodnight, angel."
