EYE OPENER

KATE

“You shouldn’t have saved me … let me drown and die there beta Vance!” I yelled at him, straining from his hard pull. All my intention was to jump back into the deep pool and just float to my death. I can’t swim so I intended to die there.

I didn’t know he was watching me, just as I was about to fly into one of the pools in the Alpha mansion he had jumped at me to pull me away. I bit his arm in frustration but he didn’t even flinch.

“Behave yourself Kate, your death won’t change anything, staying alive for your brothers is the best solution, come with me and listen to what I have to tell you” he replied.

Unlike me he wasn’t trying to scream or yell, instead he pulled me like a bag of potatoes behind him and dragged me to his quarter. Some of the pack members gazed at us with curiosity.

Vance had been the nicest and friendliest to me in here, everyone hates me and tries not to hide it? Especially Shirley; the Alpha girlfriend. He flaunts her around and allows her to bully me as well.

“I think death would be best, Beta Vance… I’m just a lowly maid and house help here, just yesterday Shirley and her friends had a party to work me out and ridicule me … your Alpha wouldn’t let me see my brothers” I complained to him again, trying to make him see reasons why he should just allow me die.

He scoffed and ignored me, his eyes on the road. We were almost in front of his apartment and he was so intent on getting me there in my complete form.

“You were there too, he ordered you to kill my little brother, you saw everything, after he forced me to be his luna, he introduced me unceremoniously as Luna and pushed me into the maid quarter… have been working tirelessly for a whole week, I can’t even go to school… my life has been taken from me… I…” I was blabbing on and on, sharing the reasons why I needed to die.

But kept shut once I realized we had gotten to the beta Vance apartment. The place was breathtaking and very beautiful. Almost like the Main mansion. He forced me to sit on one of his red couches and sat in front of me.

One of his maid rushed in with a full jug of chilled water and two glass cup, “drink up and relax kate.. you will need this water, I want to tell you some secrets… I think you deserve to know..” he told me at the same time filling my cup for me.

I looked at him hesitantly and collected the cup from him. I didn’t know how thirsty I was until the cold water hit my throat, I gobbled the drink up at once and stretched my hand for another fill.

He smiled at me and filled my cup again, “ now listen Kate and sit tight.. it’s a complicated revelation… your parents aren’t who you think they are .. I'm sorry to break it to you like this but they are spies!” He Informed me.

The water in my throat almost choked me and I dropped the glass cup with a thud, I opened my mouth to insult and curse at him but my inner wolf warned me to listen to everything he has to say as he’s saying the truth.

He shrugged at me and kept talking, “ kate listen.. the Alpha will kill me if he finds out about this meeting, but I think you deserve to know why he hates you and why everyone in the pack house treats you like trash… it’s not your fault because you don’t even know…”

“Please tell me…” I begged him, my voice shaky and quiet. My heart was shrinking at once without hearing the whole story. From his facial expressions, I knew it’s not going to be a good revelation.

“Your parents are called the traitor family… I wonder why you haven’t heard it from anyone around here, they don’t try to keep it away from you, the reason for the name is obvious” Beta Vance continued his speech.

I nodded at him to continue, fisting my two hands from trembling, he searched my face thoroughly to be sure if I was emotionally ready before he continued. “They were spies from the fire axe pack Kate, of course you don’t even know the fire axe pack because you weren’t born there”

“Your father is the beta to the Alpha there and he was sent here to destroy Alpha chris and his father by his own Alpha, your father came here with your mother and Lucian .. Lucian is not your brother… he’s the prince of the fire axe pack!” Beta Vance threw the bomb words at me and waited for me to assimilate them.

I stood up and started pacing, I had paced to and fro like ten times before I knew what I was doing, Beta Vance was very calm with me, he even asked if I needed anything.

“I need my sanity… my mind, I need to wake up from this dream” my wolf was crying right now and I was more than scared. Right here he’s telling me that my whole life is fake and a lie.

My once happy and loving family, who I had been fighting for was all fake and my parents were nothing but deadly tools for an unknown Alpha that I wasn’t aware of. “This is unbelievable beta Vance … I.. I can’t believe it!” I trembled as I spoke.

Beta Vance brought out some pictures from his back pocket and gave them to me, “I snuck it out from the Alpha’s library …. You need to see them to understand.. look I’m telling you all these so you don’t fight blindly”

I took the pictures and everything became clearer, everyone's names were labeled on it, Lucian was in the picture, as a three/four years old little boy, holding another man's hand. The man wasn’t my father, his name is labeled; fire axe Alpha king.

My father stood behind my mother in another picture, they looked so young. “Before I was born?” I asked Beta Vance, even though it was all so glaring.

“Kate those dozens of pictures are life in the fire axe pack, before your parents came here to spy on us .. now Kate… that’s not all, they did something very cruel, apart from giving valid and important information about our pack to the fire axe pack, for the past twenty years ….

Three years ago we found out they were the ones responsible for Alpha chris fathers death” beta Vance informed me, this time looking away and staring blanking at the door behind me, as he broke the bombshell again.

The pictures in my hands fell out, I realized that I threw them away myself. They instantly felt like a gun or a knife, I choked on my breath and had to sit on the closest couch beside me. Beta Vance watched me from the corner of his eyes. Refusing to look at me.

“I’m so disgusted at myself right now!” I confessed. Tears were threatening to flow out of my eyes but I forced them down, this is not the time to cry. “Aiden doesn’t know all of this!” I blurted out my thoughts as they came to mind, he’s just as innocent as me. I became very worried for my little brother.

“That’s why I’m telling you all these.. just so that the two of you won’t suffer blindly, you need to stand up for your little brother and fight your way to freedom… use your mate bond, the Alpha isn’t as cold as it appears. At least you can understand his agony and pain now?” beta Vance said to me in a dismissive tone, getting up to usher me out.

I sat still, and couldn't find the strength to get up yet. “So you are saying that my elder brother isn’t my brother at all and he knows all about these evil plots and plans, he’s also a spy with my parents and …. Ohooo… ohooo..” I clutched my chest as the realization and all of Lucian suspicious behaviors started to hit me hard.

I felt like vomiting, with all the memories forcing themselves into my already hot and cramped head, how he always tries to keep us away from the palace, he hated it whenever we mention the royal family and he always appeared to have an unexplainable hatred toward the royal family, even before my parent’s death he was always with my father and they talked in hush tone whenever i was around.

“Your father knew about your mate's bond with Alpha Chris but kept it from you because he wanted you to marry Lucian after the whole mission here, this reason Angered Alpha Chris the most… they wanted to take you away, he only sent for them to question them… but they agreed to everything with pride and joy… they killed themselves with poison Kate!” Beta Vance informed me again, breathing out another scary information.

That was the end for me, I doubled over and fell into his white soft rug, vomiting into it. Two of his maids rushed to attend to me and clean me up, Beta Vance crunched down to pat my shoulder to comfort me.

“Take care of her until she’s ready to leave … I have to go now.. there’s a meeting in a few minutes, if you ask me, I will advise you to use this information for yourself… go to your mate and talk to him” he advised me before racing out of my blurry sight.

Being the daughter of the betrayal and spy, I realized at that point that I wasn’t the victim, Alpha Chris and his family were and he had every right to be angry and want vengeance. He didn’t even kill my parents after all they did, they killed themselves.

“And lucian?” His name rolled out of my lips, this time with distaste and fury, he’s the secret enemy, who knew all along and plotted with my parents and when he found out their secret had been exposed, he tried to take me and Aiden out of the pack!” My wolf howled in my head.

Finally we’ve gotten all the pieces together, the next question is what to do with these piles of dirty and agonizing revelation. Beta Vance shouldn’t have told me. Now i feel more broken, pathetic and useless.
