Kyra!"
A calm voice echoed from the shadows.
"You're finally beginning to remember pieces of yourself. That's a good start. Don't be afraid... I'm not your enemy."
The voice was gentle.
Not threatening.
Not cruel.
Yet every word carried a strange weight.
"Kyra, stay behind me," Adrian ordered, stepping in front of her as he raised his guard.
Kyra quickly did as he instructed.
"You don't have to do that, Adrian," the voice said with a soft laugh.
"I'm not here to hurt her."
The laugh wasn't evil.
It wasn't warm either.
It was impossible to tell whether the figure standing in the darkness was friend or foe.
"I'm here to help her... if she's willing to help herself."
A brief silence followed.
"Adrian can't give her every answer she needs."
The voice paused.
"I am the answer."
Adrian's eyes narrowed.
"How do you know our names?" he demanded. "Who are you?"
His fists remained clenched, ready to fight even though he couldn't clearly see the figure.
The shadow remained perfectly still.
"I hold the answers you've both been searching for," the voice replied. "And I'm the only one who can reveal the truth."
"Then tell us," Adrian said firmly. "What happened fifteen years ago? Why is Kyra connected to all of this?"
Another soft laugh escaped from the darkness.
"You're asking the wrong questions."
The room fell silent.
Then the mysterious voice spoke again.
"Ask yourselves one question instead..."
"Who benefited from my pain?"
Before either of them could respond, the shadow slowly dissolved into the darkness.
The figure was gone.
"Wait!" Kyra cried, taking a step forward.
Nothing.
Only silence answered her.
She stopped.
Her heart pounded violently against her chest.
It wasn't because the stranger had disappeared.
It was because...
The voice.
There was something about it.
Something strangely familiar.
Kyra closed her eyes.
A faint melody echoed somewhere deep inside her mind.
A gentle voice humming softly.
Warm hands brushing through her hair.
Someone whispering...
"Everything will be alright."
Her eyes snapped open.
The memory vanished before she could hold onto it.
She pressed a hand against her temple.
"No..."
Adrian immediately turned to her.
"Kyra?"
She stared at the empty darkness.
"I..."
Her voice trembled.
"I've heard that voice before."
Adrian frowned.
"What?"
"I don't know where... I don't know when..." she whispered, shaking her head. "But it felt familiar."
She closed her eyes again, desperately trying to remember.
Nothing.
Only fragments.
Broken pieces.
Like shattered glass scattered across her mind.
Every time she reached for one...
It slipped away.
A sharp pain shot through her head.
She gasped.
Adrian caught her before she lost her balance.
"Easy."
She leaned against him, breathing heavily.
"What's happening to me?"
Adrian didn't have an answer.
For the first time since this nightmare began, he realized something.
The figure hadn't simply recognized Kyra.
Kyra had recognized the figure's voice.
Not completely.
Not consciously.
But somewhere deep inside the memories that had been stolen from her...
She knew that voice.
And that changed everything.
Because memories don't recognize strangers.
They recognize people who once mattered.
Adrian looked toward the darkness one last time.
"Who are you?" he murmured under his breath.
No answer came.
Only an eerie silence lingered in the air.
Kyra slowly looked up.
Her eyes were filled with confusion... and something else.
Hope.
Because if the voice felt familiar...
Then perhaps her past wasn't completely gone.
Perhaps somewhere beyond the missing memories...
Someone was still waiting for her.
And for the first time in fifteen years...
Kyra believed that the truth might finally be within reach.
Kyra slowly stepped away from Adrian.
Her mind refused to settle.
The mysterious voice lingered in her thoughts, refusing to fade.
It wasn't the words that unsettled her.
It was the feeling they carried.
She pressed her fingertips against her temple.
A faint image drifted through her mind.
Not clear enough to understand.
Not complete enough to hold.
Just a fleeting glimpse.
A woman kneeling before a little girl.
A pair of trembling hands reaching forward.
Then...
Everything dissolved.
Kyra blinked several times.
The image was gone.
"No..."
The word escaped her lips before she realized she had spoken.
Adrian turned to her immediately.
"What did you remember?"
Kyra lowered her hand.
"I don't know."
Frustration crept into her voice.
"It's always the same. Every time I get close, everything disappears."
Adrian studied her for a long moment.
He wished there was something he could do.
But this wasn't an injury he could heal.
It was a past someone had stolen from her.
He slowly shifted his attention toward the dark corridor.
There was nothing there.
No footsteps.
No movement.
No sign that another person had been standing there only moments earlier.
"It doesn't make sense."
Kyra looked at him.
"What doesn't?"
"I checked this entire place before we came in."
His gaze swept across the empty hallway once more.
"There was nowhere for anyone to hide."
An uneasy feeling settled deep inside Kyra.
If the stranger hadn't hidden...
Then where had the figure gone?
Neither of them spoke.
The silence answered every question with another mystery.
Adrian finally broke it.
"We should leave."
Kyra gave a small nod.
She had too many questions and not nearly enough answers.
As they made their way toward the exit, something near the doorway caught her attention.
A faint glimmer reflected against the dusty floor.
She stopped.
"What is it?" Adrian asked.
Without replying, Kyra crouched down.
Her fingers brushed aside years of dust.
A delicate silver pendant rested beneath the broken wooden boards.
Its chain was worn with age.
Carefully, she lifted it into her palm.
The metal felt strangely warm.
Her eyes settled on the small symbol engraved at its center.
The moment she traced it with her thumb...
Everything around her blurred.
A forgotten fragment rose from the depths of her mind.
A little girl stood beneath a towering tree, clutching the same silver pendant.
Someone knelt in front of her.
Gentle hands fastened the pendant around the child's neck.
The figure's face remained hidden, as though the memory refused to reveal it.
Then a familiar voice reached her.
"Keep it safe."
"One day, it will lead you back to me."
The little girl nodded.
Before Kyra could see who the person was...
The memory shattered like broken glass.
She gasped, stumbling backward.
Her grip loosened, and the pendant slipped from her hand before Adrian caught it.
He examined the old piece carefully.
"I've never seen this symbol before."
Kyra couldn't look away from it.
"I have."
Her answer came almost instinctively.
"I just... can't remember where."
Adrian looked from the pendant to Kyra.
Nothing about tonight felt accidental anymore.
First, the mysterious figure.
Then the familiar voice.
Now this pendant.
Each piece seemed to be guiding them toward the same forgotten truth.
He closed his fingers around the pendant.
"Whatever this is," he said, "someone wanted us to find it."
Kyra slowly nodded.
Her eyes remained fixed on the pendant.
Somewhere within the memories locked away inside her...
It already had a name.
She simply hadn't remembered it yet.
