Chapter 20 POV Andy

POV Andy The Leader

We all had a fantastic time at Sutton Manor. It was such a lovely place that I almost forgot that the outside world was a total mess. After dinner Hugh’s wife told us that she was in the car with Hugh when the bomb went off. She said he started to howl and that he crashed the car into a tree and she got out and locked him inside but he climbed out of the sun roof and that the Queen had passed on her way to Sutton manor and stopped to pick her up and that she had been living there ever since. Hugh was so happy to know that he hadn’t hurt her in any way and that she had been safe. He repeatedly thanked the queen but she just kept saying “it really was no bother” I liked how humble she was. There was a lot of couples there and a few single women that were incredibly friendly to my men. I asked a few women how they got to Sutton manor and they all had similar stories of how the queen helped them and I was astounded by how generous she was. One women told me she lived in Dublin when the bomb went off and that she was attacked by a man and she became pregnant. Then when she gave birth on her own she was trapped in her house for days with her new born baby and that the queen and her friends would drive through the streets of Dublin looking for women and children that were in trouble. She said there was at least 6 men surrounding her house and the queen killed them all and saved her and her son. The woman blew a kiss over to the queen “it was really no bother” she said and I knew that I was really beginning to have feelings for her because she was the most outstanding person I had ever met. Hugh and his wife sat together hugging each other and it was lovely to see him so happy. I went and sat with them because I wanted to let his wife Helen know how much Hugh had done for all of us at my house. Hugh had been a great friend to all of us and had often been the voice of reason when things had got really bad. His wife looked so proud of him and I couldn’t help but bring up what the queen had told me before. “The queen told me that we all used to howl outside the walls of Sutton manor but that Hugh’s howls were different. She said it sounded like he was weeping.” Helen nodded her head and took Hugh’s hand “when you were all running around like crazy animals I would look out at him and I thought somewhere deep down he knew I was in here and that he missed me. But when the effects of the bomb wore off I didn’t hear or see any of you again until the queen said she thought that you were all living at your house. And then she went over to help you with the heating and she said Hugh wasn’t there. She came back from the orchard today and told me that you were talking about Hugh and we were both so excited. And now he’s here. It’s like all my dreams have come true” she waved over to the queen “I love you Queenie” she said “love you too” she said. I couldn’t believe how scary the queen and Sutton Manor had seemed from the outside but inside those walls was like an amazing family and I wanted to be part of it.

That night after dessert Hugh spoke quietly to the queen and I seen her give him a hug and then he came towards me “we need to talk” he said with a series look on his face. “are you trying to break up with me?” I asked with a laugh but Hugh looked sad “I’m sorry but I’m not coming back with you guys, the queen said I can live here with Helen, I’m really going to miss you guys” he said but although I was kind of jealous I was happy for him. I stood up and shook his hand when out of no where bells all around the walls started to chime. All the children and older women ran inside the house and the women ran towards the walls. “Queenie” shouted a young girl from the top of the wall and the whole place fell silent “Queenie there are men, they have trashed the glass mansion” The queen ran towards the wall and climbed to the top without any effort even though she was wearing a beautiful dress. I could see her look through binoculars. After 5 minutes she came back down and shouted that it was safe. She came straight towards me “I’m sorry but they have smashed your place up. It is a total mess over there. You guys can stay here tonight. It looks like they’ve left but it might not be safe. We can go over tomorrow to look at the damage” “who could have done this?” I asked “probably the boss and his men, he’s been threatening all the communities in the area” She looked at one of the woman and said “The Boss needs to be stoped and I feel like I might be the one to do it” all the women laughed. She was feisty and I liked it. One of the woman from the patio stood next to John and said “you can sleep in my bed tonight” and Johns face was a picture. Then another woman took one of my men Connor by the hand “why don’t I show you up to my room?” The queen rolled her eyes but I was in a state of shock that my house had been destroyed but the idea of spending the night at Sutton Manor near to the queen made me feel a little bit better. “Well I’m not standing for this, I’m going after them” said the queen as she walked by all of us. “It will be dark soon, please don’t go” said Johns sister Sarah but the queen didn’t stop as she walked backwards into the house she said “you know what I’m like Sarah, I want their blood for this” she turned and marched inside and within a few minutes she appeared wearing her black cap and dark sun glasses with a gun over her shoulder. “Open the gates” she said as she calmly loaded her gun. I looked at Helen and she said “you guys probably don’t know this but when the bomb went off it effected us too.” I nodded my head “Yes the queen said you can smell children” “yes, and we need to protect them, it’s like an inbuilt strength. A mothers love and instincts can not be matched. The bomb has left us all physically stronger.” The queen calmly walked out the gates on her own and me and my men looked at each other. “We need to help her” I said and they nodded their heads “don’t be silly, you’ll only hold her back. She’ll be home soon, she knows these woods like the back of her hand even in the dark, those guys don’t stand a chance.” Two hours later the women had gave us all a bed each and I lay there in the dark when all of a sudden I could smell the queens sweet scent. She was home and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the guys that had trashed my house because they definitely wouldn’t be making it home tonight.
