Chapter 12 POV Andy

POV Andy the leader

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I seen the young guy Cieran walking towards our house. I had thought that he was dead but here he was with a little girl asleep over his shoulder. I shook his hand when I seen him and he explained that she was his little sister and that his mum had passed away and that he didn’t feel safe in his town. He said he needed to protect his sister and asked if he could stay with us. There was a spare room and I thought that he was a good guy so I agreed that he could stay with us. It was strange to have a child in the house but she was like a little ray of light and she cheered us all up. Every single one of us became protective of her. A few weeks later I could hear horses riding towards my house and I knew it was the queens gang. Then when I seen a white van I knew it was her. I hadn’t seen her in person since she turned on the generator for us and I had a lump in my throat because she was terrifying. Myself and all the men were already outside as they approached and I told them all to keep their heads down and say nothing. The women surrounded us and a woman I recognized from the leaders meetings spoke “get down on your knees for the queen” she shouted and the back door opened and the queen got out “who’s the leader?” She shouted as she walked through us all and I put my hand up but I still didn’t look at her. She stood in front of me and I could feel the anger radiating from her and I wondered what we had done wrong. “I heard you have a little girl here” I nodded my head “why is she here?” She snapped “Her brother brought her here so we could keep her safe” she started to pace in front of me and it made me even more nervous “I’ve heard it all now. What kind of brother would bring a little girl to a bunch of rapists?” I couldn’t defend myself because I didn’t know what I had done after the bomb went off. I could hear the queen taking deep breaths like she was going to explode when finally she said “She’s coming with us, I’m not leaving her here with you animals” she turned to go inside when Cieran stepped forward “you can’t take Poppy away from me she’s the only family I have left” The Queen looked him up and down “I really hope you’re not talking to me. Because if you are, I’ll slit your f*****g throat. I’m going in there to see that little girl and if any of you have hurt even one hair on her head I’m going to wipe you all out. I have allowed you to live for this long, I will end every last one of you” she was sinister and I couldn’t even look at her. She quickly walked up the steps to my front door and two of the woman followed her. Then Cieran ran after them and I ran after him. I grabbed his arm and told him to calm down. We went inside and watched as The Queen walked across the living room and little Poppy was playing by the window with her dolls. Without missing a beat the queen took off her sunglasses and cap and sat down in front of Poppy with her back to us. “Hello” said Poppy with a huge smile and I wondered what the Queen was going to say. “Hello, you must be Poppy?,” her voice had totally changed. She had spoke to me like s**t outside and now she sounded like Mary Poppins. Poppy seemed to like her and she said “you’re beautiful, you look like a princess” the Queen laughed “thank you, you’re beautiful too. But I’m not a princess, I’m the Queen.” Poppy’s eyes darted to Ciaren “you saved us from the bad men in our town” she said and the queen nodded her head “I would do anything to keep you safe Poppy, I live over there, that’s my castle and I would love for you to come and live with us. There’s lots of children and you can play and go to school there. And there’s lots of food and big walls to keep the bad men out” Poppy looked excited and she got up and hugged the Queen and then she said “can my brother come with us?” The queen nodded her head “of course he’s coming with us, I heard he’s the best big brother in the whole world, we would never leave him behind” Poppy hugged her tightly and the queen stood up “let’s go, but I need to warn you there’s lots of ladies outside on horses and I think they look a little bit scary but they are so lovely” Poppy took the queens hand “you will always be safe when I’m there” the Queen had her back to us but I still couldn’t look at her. Then she glanced over her shoulder “why is it so warm in here?” She asked but I didn’t answer her. She took off her jacket and that’s when I caught an over powering aroma from her. She smelled like heaven and it actually turned me on “There’s air conditioning, the control pad is in here” she walked away and she started to whistle like the day she had fixed our generator. I didn’t know the song but to my surprise little Poppy did and she started to sing along as the cool air came through the vents. Then all of a sudden the queen appeared in the doorway and she leaned against the frame and smiled and I had no idea just how beautiful she was “how do you know that song?” She asked with a little giggle and this goddess was a far cry from the monster I had built her up to be in my mind. Her long dark hair was swept over one shoulder and her body was out of this world. I looked at Ciaren and his mouth was hanging open. “I love that song it’s my brothers favorite” said Poppy and the queen came towards us and even her walk was sexy “really? that’s one of my favorite songs too” she said with an excited smile but Ciaren just said “you’re absolutely beautiful” it was out of no where and I didn’t know how she was going to react “thank you” she said with a big smile, “look at this” she said and she flashed her wrist to Ciaren “oh wow is that a tattoo of him? It’s brilliant, he’s my favorite” “yeah me too that’s why they call me the queen” “oh really I thought it was because you are a beauty queen” I said and she pushed my arm and smiled at me shyly and it made my stomach flip “no it’s because I love Freddie Mercury. I can’t believe our little Poppy is a Queen fan too. You are going to love living with us honey” she kissed her on the head and said “oh dear I’ve forgot my hat and glasses and jacket” she wiggled over to where she had left them and as she put them on she said “Poppy I’m going to go out there and I need to pretend to be scary but I’m really not so please remember it’s only a game” once she had put them back on she came over “I’ve even got a scary voice I use” she said and she spoke the way she had outside. Poppy laughed “your silly with that scary voice” but the Queen didn’t laugh instead she looked at me and said “the scary voice is actually my real voice but I think people think Scottish accents are scary” She shrugged her shoulders and I couldn’t help but smile. “let’s go guys” she said and when we went outside Ciaren shook my hand and thanked me for taking them in. When he got to the back of the van Ciaren was struggling to open the door and the queen shouted “hurry up” at the top of her voice. All my men where still kneeling and staring at the ground and they looked terrified but she looked at me and gave me a huge smile and a thumbs up. I was smiling and waving at her like a loved up teenager. When they had gone Hugh came over and put his hand on my shoulder “are you alright, you look like something happened in there” I took a deep breath and sighed “something did happen Hugh, I’m in love” his face was a picture but I didn’t care because she was amazing and for the first time in a long time I was excited to see what the future held for me.
