Chapter 8 POV Ciaren

774 Words
POV Ciaren I had traveled down from Northern Ireland to meet my mums new husband. I hadn’t bothered going to the wedding because I had been to enough of my mums weddings. I told her that I was busy with work but she knew that I just wasn’t interested. This was her forth marriage and as soon as I met him I knew this one wasn’t going to last either. My mum and dad had me when they were only 16 and they were forced to get married by their parents and now my mum was 44 and pregnant again and I was embarrassed to tell my friends and work colleagues at the law firm that I was going to be a big brother at the age of 28. My mum lived in a small quaint town outside Dublin. I decided that I was going to go out hill walking because there wasn’t a gym in their town. It was a lovely place and it was peaceful to be on my own for once. I spent most of my life working or working out or socialising but I loved my own company. I walked for hours before the bomb went off and I couldn’t remember a thing until I woke up in this really fancy modern glass mansion with a bunch of men that were just as confused as I was. We all sat around trading stories about the last thing we could remember. The guy that owned the house was called Andy and he was calm whilst we were all panicking. We were all worried about our loved ones and after a while I decided to walk back to my mums town to see if she was safe. The men from the house had tried to stop me from leaving, they said that they didn’t think it was safe outside but I knew that I needed answers. Andy gave me a warm coat to wear because it was snowing outside. He told me I could come back at any time. I appreciated his kindness but I could tell that he thought that I was walking out to my death. It took me a while to get to my mums house and the once beautiful little town was a mess. There was crashed cars lining the streets and boarded up houses and dog s**t smeared on every building. The smell was unbearable. I went to my mums house and banged on the door, there was a small window at the top of the house and she stared out at me for at least 15 minutes before she let me in. When she finally did she wouldn’t hug me and she didn’t look like herself. She began to cry as I explained that I woke up and couldn’t remember anything. “So it’s over?” She asked and I didn’t know what she meant. She told me that a chemical bomb had went off all over the world and that it only effected men. She said that we preyed on woman and hunted them down in packs. I couldn’t believe my ears. She told me she had been boarded up in the house since the bomb had dropped. She said they put s**t on the doors so that the men couldn’t smell them. She said that 18 months had passed and that I had a baby sister called Poppy. I went up stairs to see her and she was the cutest little girl in the world. I picked her up and hugged her and she gave me a huge smile. We bonded immediately and I was glad that I hadn’t stayed in the glass mansion with the men. But I was still confused, I asked my mum how she had survived and how she had food and water. “The Queen sends food to us. She took in all the woman from the village and they live with her in the castle but I wouldn’t go with her. I had to stay here in case you came back” I was thankful that they were being looked after but then my mum dropped another bomb “But even if the effects of the bomb has worn off I don’t think any of you will be safe from her” “from who?” I asked “the Queen. She’s going to wipe all men out for what you have all done” a shiver went down my spine and I hoped that I never had to meet this queen and I also hoped that I would never remember what I had done during that time.
