Chapter 2: "A Kiss Meant for Someone Else

1413 Words
Episode 6: "The One Who Came Back" ZOEY POV I was happy to see Mia talking to someone. It's been over a year since she broke up with Ava, and I still don't even know why they broke up. I've tried asking, but she always changes the topic. Maybe she still hasn't moved on. The music was just wow, and the vibes were everything. I was dancing with a glass of liquor in my hand when someone leaned closer and whispered, "You're feeling it too, huh?" I turned around. It was Ryder. RYDER POV "Why aren't they here yet, bro?" "Who?" "Are you seriously asking me who?" "Stop it! You know why I'm here." My name is Ryder. I'm tall, brown-skinned, and muscular. I've always had a thing for Zoey, but I messed everything up. Now I'm back to fix things. "Bro, chill. I chatted with Mia to confirm, and she said they're on their way." "Let me give you a tour. It's only been two years since I opened this club, and look how far I've come." "I know how much I've made over the years, especially from the VVIP and VIP sections." My phone beeped. I checked the message. "I think they're here." I looked toward the entrance, and there she was. Zoey. She looked stunning, as always. She was whining to the music, completely lost in the beat. Her tiny waist and curves were tempting enough to make me forget why I was even standing there. An image of her wearing my T-shirt flashed through my mind. I quickly pushed the thought away. Not tonight. I got closer and leaned toward her. "Are you feeling it too?" She turned around. My heart started beating rapidly. For a moment, I felt like I'd stopped breathing. She smelled exactly the same. Zoey's signature fragrance. I'd missed it more than I wanted to admit. ZOEY POV I turned around to see who had that familiar voice. And behold... Ryder. He looked hot as always. The sight of him brought back old memories, but I quickly shook them off. Don't forget, this was the same guy who cheated on you with Lucy, your stepsister. "Hey, Ryder. It's been eons. A lot of time has passed. When did you come back from the States?" "Last week." "Small world, right?" "Huh?" "Like, who would've thought you'd actually come back after all these years?" "What brings you back?" "Actually, I'm here to take over the company. You know, ever since my dad passed away, my mom has been handling everything. She always complains that she's too old for it, so I decided to take over." "Good to see you." "It's getting late. I think I should get going." "Come on, chill. You're in a club." "Yeah, I know. It's almost 3 a.m." "There's no need to be terrified or tense," he said with a seductive smile. I rolled my eyes. "I'm not terrified." "Then why are you trying to run away?" "I'm not." I took another sip of my drink. Maybe I was getting drunk. I could feel my thoughts becoming messy. Episode 7: "The Kiss She Didn't Mean" ZOEY POV "Are you okay?" I looked at him. "Yeah." "Zoey." "Hmm?" "Zoey." He called my name again. I blinked. "What?" MIA POV I like alcohol, but I don't drink too much whenever I'm out with Zoey because she always gets drunk and doesn't remember things the next day. I saw her dancing with Ryder, but now they were sitting down and chatting. I wondered what they were talking about. "You like her and want more than friendship, right?" I looked at Teagan. "Stop holding back. Tell her," she advised me. Tell Zoey about my feelings for her. I almost laughed. If only it were that easy. I wondered how she even knew about my feelings for Zoey. I glanced at Zoey again. She was still with Ryder. And from the way they were talking, I could tell things were about to get intense. I looked away. I didn't want to watch. Oh! It's almost 3 a.m. I should get going. My place is quite far from here. We exchanged contacts, and I stood up. "Zoey, let's get going." I took her bag and walked over to her. "Come on." She stood up, and I immediately noticed how unsteady she was. I sighed. I knew it. She was drunk. We managed to get to the car park and got her into the front passenger seat. I sat in the driver's seat, but before I could start the car, she started sobbing. I froze. I felt a sharp pain in my heart. "Zoey?" She covered her face. I was confused. Did I say something bad? Did I do something that might have hurt her? I didn't know what to do. I reached over and gently placed my hand on her cheek. "Are you okay?" She looked at me with teary eyes. "Did you hit your head or something?" She shook her head. Saying No "I'm not happy. I feel lonely. I thought I was okay, but I'm not. I loved you, but..." My heart skipped a beat. For a second, I thought she was talking to me. That tiny bit of hope hit me before reality came crashing back down. Then she whispered, "Why would you cheat on me with Lucy? Why?" I realized she had mistaken me for that bastard. I exhaled slowly. Why did it feel like I'd stopped breathing? It felt like forever. Before I could take my hand away from her face, her lips touched mine. I froze. For a few seconds, I couldn't move. My heartstrings were pulled, and butterflies filled my stomach. She was kissing me. Even if she didn't know it was me. I quickly pulled back. She looked at me with a warm, sleepy smile. Then she blacked out. I stared at her. "Zoey..." She didn't respond. I swallowed hard and started the car. And then I drove off. Episode 8: "Stay With Me" NEXT DAY MIA POV Phew! Thank God we're home. I woke up early to make something greasy and comforting to fill the hole in her stomach. The kiss... Argh! Get out of my head. I tried to focus on the food, but my mind kept going back to it. The kiss wasn't for me in the first place. I knew that. But it still felt good. Too good. "Aw, shit." I covered my face with my hands. What was wrong with me? I shouldn't be thinking about it this much. But how was I supposed to forget something I'd secretly wished for? ZOEY POV I could smell a pleasant aroma while I was still half-asleep. Ahh... My head hurts so badly. How much did I drink last night? I slowly got out of bed and went straight to the bathroom for a quick bath. Gosh! I feel much better now. I walked into the dining room and sat down. Mia placed a burger and coffee in front of me. This wasn't the first time she'd treated me like a queen. "Your future soulmate will be very lucky," I said, waiting patiently for her to tell me about the girl from last night. Because she was giving 10/10. Minus nothing. She was gorgeous. Mia was just quietly eating her breakfast. I frowned. Why was she so quiet? Our eyes locked, but she shyly looked away. Something was off. What happened between her and that girl that was making her blush? I tried to recall last night's events, but my mind was completely blank. I could only remember Ryder dancing with me. Then we sat down and talked. After that... Nothing. "Ahhh! My head hurts." "Are you okay?" Mia asked. "Yeah, I'm fine." I rubbed my forehead. I really needed to stop drinking like this. Then Mia grabbed my hand softly. "Stay with me." "Why?" I asked. "Stay for a few weeks." I stared at her. "I'll feel lonely if you go. Stay with me. I need your company. Say yes, please." I smiled. "Okay, fine! Why are you so clingy?" She smiled back. "Do you need anything? I doubt it." "Yeah..." I reached for my coffee. For some reason, Mia still looked nervous. I didn't understand why. But I was too tired to think about it. All I wanted was food, coffee, and a painkiller. And, apparently, a few weeks of putting up with my clingy best friend.
