Heather arrived at Victoria’s home promptly at 7 pm, during a break in the weather, dressed in her best pair of conservative tan slacks and a tweed blazer she bought during her last attempt at shopping five years before. Sales people seemed repelled by her, so Heather did not enjoy the shopping experience. Stores were another place where she was among people, yet felt totally alone, so she repeatedly wore what was already in her closet. Heather worked from home as a virtual customer service agent for an insurance company, so there was no need to buy clothes for the office. The job gave her a steady income, albeit small, and the ability to be in contact with people without physically being in their presence.
When Victoria invited her to join them for dinner, Heather was overwhelmed
