Chapter 3: Secret And Shadow

265 Words
As Luna walked back to her cottage, she couldn't shake off the feeling that Kael was hiding something. His questions seemed innocent enough, but there was a intensity in his eyes that made her feel like he was searching for something specific. She pushed aside her doubts and focused on the excitement of meeting someone new. Maybe Kael would be a friend, someone who could understand her struggles and share in her joys. As she entered the cottage, Aurora looked up from her book, a hint of concern in her eyes. "Luna, where have you been? You were out late." Luna hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I met someone," she said finally. "A boy named Kael. He just moved into Windsong Manor." Aurora's expression turned thoughtful. "Windsong Manor, you say? I've heard rumors about that place." Luna's curiosity was piqued. " I know but does it matter" Aurora's eyes seemed to cloud over, and she looked away. "Just old stories, child. Nothing to worry about." Luna sensed that her grandmother was hiding something, but she knew better than to push her. Instead, she asked, "Do you think Kael is... like us?" Aurora's gaze snapped back to hers, a hint of surprise in her eyes. "What makes you ask that?" Luna shrugged. "Just a feeling I got from talking to him. He seems... different." Aurora's expression turned serious. "Be careful around him, Luna. We don't know much about his family or their intentions." Luna nodded, feeling a sense of unease. She knew her grandmother was right, but she couldn't help feeling drawn to Kael.
