Luna's heart skipped a beat as she realized that Kael had seen her transformation. She wasn't sure if she should be afraid or curious. Kael's piercing blue eyes seemed to bore into her soul, and Luna felt a shiver run down her spine.
"I mean, I'm Luna," she said, trying to sound casual despite the turmoil brewing inside her. "And I've never seen you around Moonstone before. Are you new here?"
Kael nodded, his expression unreadable. "Yeah, I just moved here. My family and I are staying at the old Windsong Manor on the outskirts of town."
Luna's ears perked up. "Windsong Manor? That's an old place. I've heard rumors about it being haunted."
Kael smiled, and Luna noticed a hint of mischief in his eyes. "Maybe it is. But I'm not one to believe in ghosts."
Luna found herself drawn to Kael's confidence and easy smile. She couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to be friends with someone who seemed so... normal.
As they talked, Luna realized that Kael seemed to know more about her than she was comfortable with. He asked her questions about her family and her interests, but his questions felt... probing.
"So, Luna," Kael said, his voice low and smooth. "What do you like to do for fun?"
Luna hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I like to explore the woods, I guess. There's something about being in nature that makes me feel... alive."
Kael's eyes lit up. "I know what you mean. I've always felt a connection to the night, too."
Luna's instincts told her to be cautious. There was something about Kael that didn't quite add up. But at the same time, she felt drawn to him, like they shared a secret that no one else understood.
As the sun began to rise higher in the sky, Luna knew she had to get back home. "I should go," she said, trying to sound reluctant. "My grandmother will be worried about me."
Kael nodded, his expression understanding. "Yeah, I should get going too. Maybe I'll see you around town?"
Luna smiled, feeling a spark of excitement. "Yeah, maybe."
