Shadows Rising

Kiara dropped the phone like it burned her fingers. The video still played in her mind. The woman outside. Older. Eyes sharp. Looking straight into the camera like she could see them through the screen. Alex’s mother. Alive. "Alex..." Kiara’s voice came out shaky. She sat up. The sheet pooled around her waist. Her skin still flushed from their lovemaking. The locket stuck slightly to the sweat on her chest. "She is right outside. Right now." Alex grabbed the phone. Played the video again. His jaw tightened so hard the muscle jumped. He adjusted his watch even though it was not on. The scar above his eyebrow stood out pale against his skin. "This cannot be real." But his voice lacked conviction. He stood. Naked. Powerful. Tension rolled off his shoulders. Kiara watched the muscles in his back flex as he walked to the window. Looked down at the street far below. "She wants us to come to her," he said quietly. "Or she will come to us." Kiara slipped out of bed. Grabbed the silk robe. It barely covered her. She moved behind him. Pressed her front to his back. Arms sliding around his waist. Her breasts brushed his skin. "Then let us face her. Together. No more running from ghosts." Alex turned in her arms. His hands settled on her hips. Gripped hard enough to leave marks. His eyes burned into hers. "You do not understand what she is capable of." "Show me." She rose on her toes. Kissed him. Slow at first. Then deeper. Her tongue traced his bottom lip. Coaxing. "Let me in, Alex. All the way." He groaned. Lifted her suddenly. Her legs wrapped around his waist. He carried her back to the bed. Dropped her down. Came over her. His mouth claimed hers again. Hungry. Almost angry. Teeth nipping her lower lip. Hand sliding under the robe. Finding bare skin. Cupping her breast. Thumb brushing her n****e until it hardened. "Kiara..." He kissed down her neck. Sucked hard at the spot where her pulse raced. "This is dangerous." "I know." She arched into his touch. Moaned when his mouth closed over her n****e. Sucking. Biting gently. Her fingers tangled in his hair. Pulling him closer. "But so are you." His hand moved lower. Between her legs. Found her still wet from before. Two fingers pushed inside. Deep. Curved. Stroked that spot that made her gasp. "You feel this?" he murmured against her breast. "How ready you are for me? Even now. With everything falling apart." "Yes." She rocked against his hand. Breath coming fast. "Do not stop." He added a third finger. Thrust harder. His thumb circled her c**t. Perfect pressure. Kiara’s moans filled the room. Sweet. Needy. Her hips moved with him. Chasing the pleasure. Alex watched her face. Eyes dark. "You are mine now. Secrets or not." "Yours," she gasped. Close already. Body tightening around his fingers. He pulled out suddenly. Replaced them with his c**k. Thrust in deep. One smooth stroke. They both groaned. He stayed still a moment. Letting her adjust. Feeling her pulse around him. Then he moved. Hard. Deep. Grinding against her with every thrust. Kiara met him. Legs locked around his waist. Nails digging into his back. "Harder, Alex. I need to feel you." He gave her what she asked for. The bed creaked. Skin slapped against skin. His mouth stayed on her neck. Her breasts. Anywhere he could reach. Marking her. Claiming her. In the middle of it, lost in the rhythm, Alex whispered against her ear. "My mother hated weakness. She saw my fiancée as a threat. Someone who made me soft." Kiara moaned. Her walls clenched around him. "Keep talking." "She paid them. I suspected it for years but buried it." His thrusts grew deeper. More desperate. "If she is alive... everything I built was on a lie." "Come with me," Kiara gasped. Her body tightened. Shaking. "Now, Alex." They came together. Hard. Kiara cried out his name. Body pulsing around him. Alex groaned deep. Spilled inside her. Collapsed over her. Breathing ragged against her neck. For a long moment, only their heartbeats filled the silence. Then Alex lifted his head. Looked at her. "We go see her. Tonight. But you stay close to me. No matter what she says." Kiara nodded. Fingers tracing the scar above his eyebrow. "I am not going anywhere." They dressed quickly. Tension thick in the air. Alex in a fresh black shirt. Kiara in jeans and a sweater. The locket felt heavier now. Like it carried the weight of every secret. As they stepped into the private elevator, Alex pulled her against him. Kissed her hard. Possessive. His hand on her lower back. Fingers digging in. The doors opened to the underground garage. A black SUV waited. But as they approached, a figure stepped out from the shadows. An older woman. Elegant. Sharp eyes. The same woman from the video. Alex froze. His hand tightened on Kiara’s waist. "Mother," he said. Voice cold. Dangerous. The woman smiled. Thin. Knowing. "Hello, son. And you must be Kiara. The doctor who watched your fiancée die." Her eyes flicked between them. "We have much to discuss. About the real reason your father died. About the money your father funneled through Kiara’s family. And about why this marriage must end tonight." Kiara’s stomach twisted. She pressed closer to Alex. Felt his heart hammering against her side. Alex’s voice went deadly quiet. "You have two minutes to explain before I call security." His mother laughed softly. "Two minutes? Darling, this story takes much longer." She looked straight at Kiara. "Especially when the good doctor’s father was my partner in everything." A second black car pulled up behind them. Uncle Richard stepped out. Gun visible at his waist. "Enough games," he said. "Both of you. Into the car. Now. Or I end this marriage permanently." Alex pushed Kiara behind him. His body tense. Ready to fight. The night air crackled with danger.
