Alex pushed Kiara behind him. His body formed a wall between her and the two figures in the underground garage. The air felt thick. Cold concrete under their feet. The scent of exhaust and expensive perfume mixing in the dim lighting.
"Richard," Alex said. Voice low and dangerous. "Put the gun away. This is not how we handle family business."
Uncle Richard smiled. The gun stayed steady at his side. Not pointed yet. But the threat was clear. "Family? You brought an outsider into our bloodline. A woman whose father helped your mother destroy everything." His eyes flicked to Kiara. Lingered on her sweater. The way it clung to her curves. "She is poison, Alex. End it now."
Alex’s mother stepped forward. Elegant. Unbothered by the gun. Her eyes — the same sharp shape as Alex’s — studied Kiara. "He is right about one thing. Your father and I had an arrangement. Money flowed. Favors exchanged. The crash was necessary. Your fiancée was becoming too influential."
Kiara’s stomach twisted. She stepped beside Alex. Not behind him. Her hand brushed his. Fingers interlocking for a second. "I knew nothing about any of this. I was twenty-four. Just trying to save lives."
Alex squeezed her hand once. Then released it. His other hand adjusted his watch. Tight. "Mother. You let me believe you were dead. You let me carry the guilt for years."
The older woman’s expression softened for half a second. Then hardened again. "Guilt makes men weak. I taught you that. This girl makes you weak too." She looked at Kiara. "Walk away now and I will make sure your hospital survives. Stay and we burn it all down."
Richard raised the gun slightly. "Decide, nephew. The board meets in two days. One word from me and you lose everything."
Alex moved fast. Stepped forward. His body tense. Ready. "You both forget something." His voice dropped. Cold. "I built this empire. Not you. Not father. Me." He looked at Kiara. His eyes softened just a fraction. "And I am not letting her go."
Kiara’s heart raced. She moved beside him again. Her shoulder brushed his arm. "We face this together. Whatever the truth is."
Alex pulled her close suddenly. One arm around her waist. Possessive. His mouth found hers in front of them both. Hard. Claiming. His tongue swept in. Deep. Like he needed to taste her. Remind himself she was real. She kissed him back. Fingers curling into his shirt. Body pressing against his.
When they broke apart, both breathing hard, Alex looked at his mother and uncle. "The marriage stays. The empire stays. And if you come after her again, I will destroy you myself."
Richard laughed. Lowered the gun. "Brave words. But you have twenty-four hours to change your mind. Or I present everything to the board." He got back into his car. Drove off.
Alex’s mother stayed a moment longer. She looked at Kiara. "You remind me of who I used to be. Be careful. Love destroyed me once." Then she turned and disappeared into the shadows.
The garage fell silent. Only the distant hum of the city above.
Alex turned to Kiara. Pulled her into his arms fully. Buried his face in her neck. "I am sorry you got dragged into this."
She held him tight. Fingers stroking his back. "I chose this. I chose you." Her hand slid lower. Cupped him through his pants. Felt him harden instantly. "Take me upstairs. Remind me why I am staying."
He groaned. Lifted her suddenly. Her legs wrapped around his waist. He carried her to the private elevator. Pinned her against the wall inside as the doors closed. Mouth on hers again. Hungry. His hand pushed under her sweater. Found bare skin. Cupped her breast. Pinched her n****e.
"Kiara..." He kissed down her neck. Sucked hard. "You are going to be the death of me."
"Good." She rocked against him. Felt how hard he was. "I want to feel you inside me again. Right now."
The elevator reached the penthouse. He carried her straight to the bedroom. Dropped her on the bed. Stripped her fast. Sweater. Jeans. Everything. Then his own clothes. Naked. Hard. Beautiful.
He came over her. Spread her legs. Thrust inside in one deep stroke. They both moaned. He stayed still for a moment. Forehead against hers.
"No more running," he whispered. Started moving. Slow. Deep. Grinding against her. "You are mine, Kiara Voss."
"Yours," she gasped. Legs locked around him. Meeting every thrust. Nails digging into his back. "Even if the whole world burns."
He moved faster. Harder. The bed creaked. Her moans grew louder. His name falling from her lips like a prayer. He reached between them. Thumb circling her c**t. Pushing her closer.
"Come for me," he growled. "Let me feel you."
She shattered. Cried out. Body pulsing around him. Wet heat gripping tight. Alex followed with a deep groan. Spilled inside her. Collapsed over her. Breathing heavy.
They lay tangled. His hand stroking her side. Her fingers tracing the scar above his eyebrow.
"Whatever comes tomorrow," he said quietly. "We face it together."
Kiara nodded. Kissed his chest. "Together."
But as they drifted toward sleep, both their phones lit up at the same time. Different numbers. Same message.
"The board meeting has been moved to tomorrow morning. Bring your wife. We will decide if this marriage — and this empire — survives the day."
Alex pulled her tighter against him. His hand possessive on her hip.
The real fight was just beginning.
Kiara’s phone buzzed again. A private message from an unknown number. "Your brother is with us. Come alone tomorrow or he pays for your father’s sins." She froze in Alex’s arms. Tears burned her eyes. "Alex... they have my brother."
