After dinner that evening Jane cleaned up the dining hall again while Filipe sat aside and studied. It is just after ten in the evening when Jane got done, “all done, see you tomorrow.”
“You are a fast learner. You are getting faster at cleaning,” Filipe says, playfully punching her on the arm.
They went their separate ways and as Jane got to her room she found Lilly at her study table again, “good evening.”
Lilly doesn’t respond to Jane. Jane rolls her eyes at Lilly and decided that instead of showering in the morning when everyone else does she is going to shower before bed like she uses to do when she was a princess. Jane could never understand why people don’t shower before bed, ‘who goes to bed dirty?’
After a long hot shower, Jane got into bed just in time. “Lights off Lilly,” the controller says as she walks past.
‘I wonder why Filipe and Lilly are both up late studying?’ Jane wonders as she drifts off to sleep.
Early the next morning when Jane woke up from her alarm she found that Lilly is already out of the room. Lilly went to the bathrooms to brush her teeth and wash her face, ‘thankfully the basins are not too busy as everyone is in the showers or queuing at the showers.’
Jane found herself excited for lunchtime as she could not wait to spent time with Filipe, even if it is while busy cleaning. After lunch, Jane is so disappointed to see that Lilly stayed behind with Filipe and Jane had to do her best to avoid looking in their direction as they smooch the time over. It is much faster cleaning after lunch than it is dinner and Jane got done within an hour. Jane didn’t ever let the two love birds know that she is done and just left to explore the school grounds.
Jane ended up at the stables and greeted the horses one by one. ‘I wonder when we will be tending to the animals and the gardens; I have to check my paperwork.’ Jane did not realize how fast the time went by and made her way over to the girls boarding house to wash up for dinner when she realized that it is past dinner time. Jane quickly made her way over to the dining hall where she found Filipe busy cleaning up, “sorry I am late, I lost track of time.”
Filipe wiped clean a table before sitting and opening his books, “thought you quit on me.”
“No, I am a girl of my word. I am just bumped that I missed dinner.”
After Jane is finish cleaning she said good night to Filipe, “good night.”
“Come to the kitchen, I will whip you up something,” Filipe says as he packs his books away.
“You can cook?” Jane asked surprised.
“Nope, but I can make a sandwich,” Filipe laughs.
Inside the kitchen, Filipe takes out two slices of bread, butter, cheese, and some potato chips. Jane watches him, wondering what he is up to.
“Dinner served,” Filipe says as he hands her the sandwich.
“Potato chips on bread?” Jane asked as she looks at the sandwich.
“With cheese. Don’t judge until you try it.”
Hesitantly Jane takes a bite, “mmm, not bad.”
“Good night Jane,” Filipe says smiling as he walks away.
After Jane finished the sandwich she cleaned the plate and knife and went to shower before bed.
Jane got into bed and pulled her sheets over her head to cover her eyes from Lilly’s desk lamp.
“I never see you studying. Trust me you don’t want to get anything less than an A,” Lilly makes a snarky remark.
“Let me worry about me and you worry about you,” Jane responds annoyed.
“Whatever,” Lilly says as she continues to study.
Jane managed to fall asleep and got woken up when the controller walked past, “lights off Lilly.”
“Finally,” Jane says as she stubbornly turns around.
“Do you have something to say, Jane?” the Controller asked.
“No mam, I just find it hard to fall asleep with the lights on,” Jane says, choosing her words carefully.
“Lilly, please go to your own room. It was fine when this room was vacant but now you will just have to deal with your own roommate or go study in the study room like everyone else.”
Lilly slammed her books close and stormed out of the room.
“Thank you, mam,” Jane says. The controller says nothing and walks to the next room.
‘Thank goodness Lilly is not really my roommate,’ Jane thoughts happily as she drifts off.
The next morning Jane got up and got ready for her day. After breakfast on her way to class Jane almost didn’t respond to a girl calling after her, “Jane.”
“Jane, hold up!”
Jane still has to get used to her new name and when she hears the name ‘Jane’ again she stops and turns around, ‘crap, I am Jane.’
“Are you deaf or what?” a short girl with red hair, blue eyes, and freckles scattered over her face asked out of breath from running after Jane.
“Sorry, didn’t hear you,” Jane says.
“I would like to write a piece on you for the school News Letter.”
“I’ll pass, thank you,” Jane says walking away.
“Fine, I will just snoop around and get the information myself. Don’t come crying if there is anything in the News Letter you don’t want in it.”
“Wait, ok, but I don’t want to be late for class. First, break?” Jane asked.
“Sure, don’t miss it or I will go snooping,” Cindy says wondering what Jane is hiding. ‘She fell for that one so easy, so now to go snooping.’
