Alexander’s POV The moon hung low in the sky, shining down on the thick forest. As I rested against a tree, thinking about what had just happened, the moon goddess decided to send me to my mate when I was in my most vulnerable state. But all thanks to her, I didn't die of the silver dagger used on me by an unknown person. My men and I went to fight an underground war, and all of a sudden, I saw myself in the woods fighting someone I couldn't recognize. He stabbed me with a silver dagger, but I killed him. It was there that this angel came to me and gave me her blood, which instantly unlocked my wolf. Tor, my wolf has been silent since my monstrous being has almost taken over me. At an instant I sensed that she was my mate. I can't stop thinking about how warm her kiss was, her gentle touch has rented a permanent room in my memory. She didn’t know who I was, or what I was. But for that one night, I let myself feel like a real person, forgetting the curse that haunted me. The feelings were mutual, although I sensed something strange about her, and I couldn't say what it was. “Please let her go, don't hurt her,” she said while sleeping. “My Alpha and Luna, forgive me, I couldn't protect you”, she kept on wailing while sleeping. I saw her go through pain the whole night I was with her. This made me leave her thinking that she had gone through a lot, and If she ever found out the truth—that I was a cursed Lycan King, doomed to destroy anyone who got too close—I knew she could never forgive me. The worst part was that she would be used as a sacrifice to revive my dying wolf….as my mate. So, I made up my mind to leave before she could ask any more questions—before I could make her life even worse. ***** A few days passed. Back in my palace, I moved back and forth in my throne room, my thoughts tangled and restless. That night, Selena, the white witch doctor’s words echoed in my mind, refusing to fade away. Each word she had said carried a weight that pressed heavily on my chest, filling me with unease. “Find her. She is your salvation, Alexander,” she had told me, her eyes glowing while her hands gripping her staff tightly. “The girl is your mate, the key to breaking free from the curse. Without her, you would stay as you are—broken, hunted, cursed.” Her words rack on my nerves. "I won’t drag her into my mess," I growled. "She deserves a normal life, free from my darkness. "From what I saw that night, she had already suffered enough. The last thing I wanted was to be the cause of her pain. But Selena wouldn’t back down. “And what kind of life do you think she'd have without you? The bond is already formed, even if she doesn’t know it. You can’t run from this, my king.” “And how can you rule as a Lycan king while your wolf is almost dying”, ‘’, think about it, ruling the supernaturals without your inner being”? Selena's voice echoed in my head. **** Days passed, weeks passed, and I thought I could resist the bond pulling me to her. But every time I closed my eyes, I saw her face. It is like she is in me already, the taste of her blood and what it did to my wolf. I can't stop thinking about it. The memory of her scent has pushed me to the edge of losing control and her laughter echoed in my dreams. Gosh, I have to look for her and protect her. I made up my mind. "My king, she has been captured," Selena’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. We had been searching for her tirelessly, but it was as if some powerful shield was hiding her from us. I had spared no effort, paying Selena to gather the best witch trackers to find her. Yet the only way we could sense her was if she was in agony or extreme danger. “She’s been taken—captured by the Redstone pack and thrown into their dungeons,” Gabriel, my beta, said with grim determination. In everything that was happening, I didn't tell Gabriel that she was my mate. I told him how she gave me her blood and saved my life. And this made him join more forces in looking for her, to extend his gratitude. The rage that burned through me was like a storm. The thought of her being trapped, vulnerable and begging for mercy like in her dreams ignited a fury in me which I hadn’t felt in years. And then came the final blow: she was in danger. “I will kill them all,” I roared. “They plan to take advantage of her and properly kill her,” my Beta said, his voice unsteady. “From the trackers' visions…. “Two guards were seen coming close to her with bad intentions. If we don’t act now…” He let the words trail off, but I didn’t need him to finish. I already knew what had to be done. “Prepare the men,” I commanded, my voice cold and sharp. The weight of my anger hung thick in the air, pressing into the room like a suffocating fog. It was enough to make him stiffen before he bowed quickly and rushed out with urgency, the echo of his retreating footsteps the only sound left behind.
