Lisa awkwardly pulled on her dress as she walked behind Rose. The bodice was squeezing and killing the life out of her chest. Lisa didn't have to wonder why Estella had small boobs; it was quite obvious now as she uncomfortably continued pulling on the bodice. The dress was so uncomfortable. The fabric felt soft and comfortable if only this awful bodice wasn't added.
Placing her hands down Lisa looked in front of her, Rose was walking quite elegantly as she led the way to the dining room. Lisa looked around in awe at the surroundings, it was beautiful and elegant, with exquisite paintings and flower vases. The floor was rugged but Lisa couldn't feel the texture, she was quite a curious little cat when it came to medieval architecture. Contemplating about stopping to take off her shoes to feel the rug, Rose suddenly stopped walking. With the sudden halt in movement, Lisa collided with Rose and she fell on her butt.
"My bad," Lisa said as she immediately stood up, an embarrassed smile on her face.
"My lady, are you alright?" Rose asked feeling guilty for abruptly stopping, without warning.
"I’m good, why did you stop?" Lisa asked as she looked around, there was no one but them along the hallway at the moment.
"My lady, it seems I had forgotten to give you your medicine this morning. The marchioness will be very mad if she finds out." Rose rattled, getting anxious.
"What medicine?" Lisa asked as her fear of drugs reared up its ugly head.
“You know what, thank you, but I think I will sit this one out" Lisa quickly responded.
"No, you can't my lady," Rose said pleading as she stared at her lady, eyes begging to help her out, by taking her tonic.
"No way!" Lisa said sternly, there was no way she was taking a medieval tonic.
A minute later, Lisa was sitting patiently as she waited for Rose to bring the damn tonic, she better get her some sweet treats to compensate for the loss of her taste buds. To pass the time, Lisa studied the tea room she was in. It looked less like a tea room and more like a library. A big library with a huge fireplace, and a couch by it. It felt warm and soft, more like a place Lisa could see Estella spending her time in.
Lisa stood up from where she was sitting, walked to where the bookshelves were, and felt around the books. They all smelt like old books that were well taken care of.
“Seems Estella was a bookworm”, Lisa said mumbling to herself.
Sensing she wasn't alone she turned at the sound of someone's voice behind her. An older-looking lady with grey hair, quite tall, wearing a dark green dress, with pearls on it. Her hair was styled into a messy bun on her head with her hands, fingers, and neck adorned. She looked like the classy rich older grandma you would see at events for the rich, Lisa thought as she kept on staring.
"My dear child, I knew you were going to be here with these rusty books of yours," she said looking quite sad
"Grandmother?" Lisa asked warily, but she should have noticed, who else would look like this if not the marchioness of the family?
"Don't tell me you have forgotten your grandmother" The marchioness asked as she looked faint. A group of handmaids Lisa didn't notice immediately came rushing to hold the marchioness and guided her to the chair by the fireplace.
Lisa's face immediately blanked, what a dramatic grandmother Lisa thought, well two can play this game.
"Grandma, don't blame this irresponsible granddaughter of yours…" Lisa said as she knelt in front of Estella's grandmother. Lisa grabbed her hands and placed in on her cold ones, then she began saying sorrowfully to her,
"Grandmother this granddaughter of yours has been so worried about your health, but seeing you so healthy made this granddaughter of yours insensible, hence me blurting out rubbish." Lisa said all these while bowing her head like a guilty child caught sneaking a cookie from a cookie jar, Lisa raised her head and stared at the marchioness with teary eyes.
Being stared down like this by her precious granddaughter, there was no way the marchioness wasn’t going to forgive her, so she immediately pulled Lisa by the hand closer to her and gave her a series of soft pats letting her know how pleasant it was to see how her granddaughter was soft-spoken with a sugary tongue. Lisa, feeling awkward being praised and hugged by Estella's grandmother began to wonder when that maid of hers was going to come bail her out of this mess she was entangled in.
"My lady…”
Lifesaver I tell you, that’s who she is.
“I have prepared your tonic and some sweets for you…" Rose said as she walked into the room, carefully carrying the tray containing the tonic.
"…and my lady, I also got some honeyed sweets for you" she continued, feeling proud she had done something that would make her lady praise her. Raising her head, she finally noticed her lady wasn't alone.
Rose immediately placed the tray of tonic and sweets on the table and curtsied
“Lady Marchioness"
"Hmm…" Estella’s grandmother waved her hand indicating to her to rise
"…why hasn’t your lady had her medicine?" Estella's grandmother asked her voice cold and her eyes narrowed. It felt to Lisa like she was a different person who dotted on her minutes ago.
“So scary,” Lisa thought as she looked at Rose she was trembling. She couldn't even form a complete sentence.
"Grandmother, Rose isn't to be blamed. I insisted I didn't want to have my tonic, I just wanted to have sweet first" Lisa looked at the marchioness with teary eyes.
"This maid of yours is incompetent" The marchioness stated sternly toward Rose.
"I told you I would hand over some of my handmaids to you, but you insisted on her…" She said frowning,
"…you don't treat this handmaid of yours sternly" Estella’s grandmother scolded Lisa. Feeling dejected by this onslaught of words Lisa quickly admitted she was at fault, and promised to scold Rose.
Finally, Estella's grandmother left the tea room with her maids but did not forget to remind Estella to come down for dinner.
"Pheww," Lisa said finally feeling relief that the marchioness was gone.
She looked to where Rose was standing head bowed, stood up and walked towards the sweets she brought, picked one up, and placed it in her mouth. Before she could chew, she heard the muffled sound of cries coming from Rose.
Just great, now how would she calm this crybaby of a maid?
