CHAPTER 5

SAGE POV. I have always wanted to find my mate but now was not the time nor the place, especially not with him. Alpha Roman had been rumored to be a man of principle and if he was he felt the bond, then… could he tell I was a girl? If he did, I was done for. The academy would throw me out. Worse, my stepmother would drag me home, and my father would stand by and let her marry me off to that old arrogant man. I was so lost in my thought that I did not realise we were now standing in Roman’s room. “What’s wrong with ypu?” Roman asked. I instinctively crossed my arms across my chest, I had wrapped my small boobs under many layers of bandage.but I used my hands as protection in case I had not conceal my breast enough. “Nothing,” I frowned. “You are blushing,” he said arching his eyebrow. I choked on air. “Wh—what?” Roman leaned against the bedpost watching me like a predator. Seconds passed, but he didn’t say anything. No mention of the bond. No sign that he felt it. Maybe he could tell I was a girl but he was enjoying taunting me. “Your face is red.” Roman said after a while. I blinked rapidly, my mind scrambling for an excuse. My hand instinctively reached up to sweep my hair behind my ear but as soon as my finger met empty hair, I remembered I had cut my hair. I was a boy now and boys don’t do that. I cleared my throat, forcing my hand to drop casually. “It’s nothing,” I muttered, deepening my voice in case it betrayed me. “Why did you change your mind?” Roman shrugged his shoulder. “No reason at all.” I frowned. “That doesn’t make sense.” His lips twitched slightly. “Since you are so desperate for a reason, I will give you one.” “The reason I’m letting you stay in my room…” He exhaled sharply. “Is because I know you wouldn’t last a day in that room.” I stiffened. “You look really weak and pathetic,” he continued. “It’s agonizing watching you beg for a place to sleep. So, since I’m learning how to be ‘good’…” His voice dripped with sarcasm. “I figured I should let you stay here until the academy fixes the room issue.” The words should have stung. But honestly? I was too relieved to care. I exhaled slowly and mustered a small smile. “Thank you, Alpha Roman.” Bad idea. His eyes flickered, and before I could react, he punched my shoulder—lightly, but enough to make me stumble slightly. “Quit smiling,” he muttered. I winced, rubbing my shoulder. “Huh?” “Quit smiling like that,” he muttered. “If you keep looking that soft, you will get bullied severely. Act like a man.” I straightened immediately. “Got it,” I nodded. “Thanks for the tip.” Roman scoffed, rolling his eyes as he grabbed a dagger from his nightstand and sat on his bed, casually sharpening it. “Since you are staying here, there are rules. You need to obey” “First,” he began, “stay off my bed. Don’t sit on it. Don’t sleep on it. Don’t even breathe near it.” I could do that. “Second,” he continued, turning the dagger in his grip, “don’t touch my belongings. If I see you so much as glance at something that isn’t yours, I will make sure you regret it.” I nodded quickly. “And finally…” He set the dagger down, resting his elbows on his knees. “You will not refuse food from me.” I frowned. That one didn’t make sense. “Why would you even—” “Because you look starved,” he said flatly. I froze. Roman leaned back against the headboard. “You won’t last in this academy looking like that. It’s irritating to even watch.” I felt my face reddened with embarrassment “You are weak,” he continued. “And weak people get devoured here.” He gave a mocking smirk. “So unless you want to be crushed in training, you will eat what I give you. Understand?” I hated how much he referred to me as weak, but more than that, I hated that he was right. “…Fine,” I muttered. Roman hummed, unimpressed. “Good.” I exhaled slowly, turning to my side of the room, but before I could lay my head down to rest, a loud voice suddenly boomed through the academy. “All students, report to the Great Hall immediately. This is an emergency.” “Let’s go,” Roman said, already heading for the door. I followed slowly behind him. We stepped outside, and the dormitory was in chaos. The boys were talking over one another, their voices rising in frustration. It seemed they were pissed about being interrupted from their rest. I spotted Kai and Henry on the other side of the hall. “Kai!” I rushed toward him and Henry. “What is going on?” Kai turned, shoving his hands in his pockets. “Didn’t you hear? There is a girl in the academy.” “The headmaster wants every single student to gather in the hall for inspection,” Henry added. “So they can fish out the culprit.” The color drained from my face, the wall suddenly felt like they were closing in on me, I couldn’t breathe any longer. Of course, it was going to be near impossible for a girl to hide in an all-boys academy. Why did I think I could breach the system? Kai nudged me lightly. “Whoever she is, she’s finished.” Kai smirked. “I hope she is cute though.” I wanted to vomit. This was it. They were going to find me.
