The storm had quieted but the ripples remained.
Seraphina’s phone buzzed constantly — not with threats this time, but with curiosity. Invitations, questions, half-whispers of gossip trailing her steps through the office halls.
She kept her head down, but her mind raced.
Caelan’s words lingered: “I want to try. Being honest. Real. With you.”
What did that even mean? Could he really change? Could she trust him—not just with her secret, but with her heart?
She found herself at her desk, staring at the empty screen, fingers trembling.
Then a new message lit up:
Caelan: “Meet me at the rooftop in 30.”

When the doors slid open, she stepped out into the cool night air.
Caelan was already there, leaning against the railing, eyes scanning the cityscape.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” he said, without turning.
She joined him, looking out at the glittering skyline.
“Why here?” she asked.
He finally faced her, a softness there that felt almost fragile.
“Because up here... it’s quiet. Away from everything. Away from who we’re supposed to be.”
She nodded slowly, understanding more than she let on.
“Seraphina,” he began, voice low, “I don’t know what I’m doing. But I want to figure it out—with you.”
Her breath hitched.
“Are you ready to fight for something real?” he asked, eyes searching.
She swallowed, heart pounding.
“Maybe,” she whispered. “But real isn’t always easy.”
He smiled, small and honest.
“Nothing worth fighting for ever is.”
They stood together, two silhouettes against the sprawling city, both uncertain but willing to try.
