Chapter2

The sword nicked him a bit and black blood dropped down his tunic. But it was the fear and shock in his eyes that satisfied me. "Drop. The. Sword." My lips stretched into a bitter smile. "You're my life, Zander. This pack wouldn't be what it is without me." "Put it down." "No!" I screamed. In the split of an eye, I was overthrown by numerous guards and soon, I was lying face down on the ground, my wrists bound together by stronger hands and knees digging into my back. "Let me go," I wanted to yell, but I couldn't say anything. Couldn't do anything but wait for death. "Take her out of here!" Zander commanded, his earlier cowardice disappearing. "It's treason! She held a sword to the Alpha's neck. Drew blood!" Yelled Lilian. "He's not Alpha yet," someone muttered. My father. How did he get here? I wriggled around to take in my surroundings but the guards mistakened it as an escape move. A whip landed on my back before I could process anything. A sharp cry tore out of my mouth. "Noooo," Ava screamed. At this point, a good number of the guests we invited for tonight were gathered in the terrace taking in the scene with utmost concentration. Not one of them did anything to help. I was helpless. I was dragged up by firm hands holding on to my arms and made to face Zander. His eyes held respite and a promise to me that I'll suffer for this. "Take her away," he ordered through gritted teeth. "And have her hung for treason." I bored my eyes into his. "You'll kill your child?" The change in his expression was subtle but I caught it. "My child," he repeated offhandedly. "Yes," I swallowed. "Yours." His breath was hot on my face as he growled. "That...is an evil thing. And evil does not deserve life." He turned to his guards. "Have her locked up where she would await judgement." I let out a soft gasp, astounded that he could extend this cruelty even to our child. If my world had shattered when I saw him with another woman and disappeared when he rejected me as his mate, now, it was completely non-existent. I let them drag me away, my body as weightless as an empty sack. I didn't even pause to see whether my father looked sorry. He only ever cared about his political ambitions anyway. "Let her go! She did nothing wrong!" Ava screamed at the guards. I mentally willed her to be quiet. It would do neither of us no good if she displayed erratic behavior. The place the guards took me to was dark and about ten feet beneath the main ground. It was the most dreaded dungeon and it smelled just like death. Never had I dreamt of being here. Yet here I was. They locked me in a cell that was so dark, I could barely see my own hands. And there, I laid down all my defenses. I knelt on the ground and cried. Cried for the cruelty shown to me by my own mate. For our unborn child. For what could have been. For the future that was now hopelessly lost. I didn't know how long I was there for since I drifted in and out of consciousness but as soon as the light from a torch shone in, all my senses heightened. "Who is that?" I asked sharply. My throat felt dry and achy from dehydration and I was sure my eyes were huge blobs of red. But I had to stay alert. "Who is that?!" I repeated. Rapid steps quickened towards me and the glow of the torch hit me in the face. Instinctively, I moved back and shielded my face with my hand. But that would be the biggest mistake of my life because I felt the sting of a blade in my lower abdomen immediately. My attacker was gone as soon as he had come. Helpless, I wrapped my hand around my stomach and dropped to the floor in the puddle of my own blood. "Help…" but my voice was too soft to hear. **** "Drop her there." "No, this place is too conspicuous!" I was upside down and floating in mid air, my long brown hair sweeping the ground. Is this my ascension to heaven? Or maybe not. I could feel a hand cupping my bum, and a bony shoulder digging into my abdomen. The abdomen that I was stabbed in. The abdomen that still hurt. Before I knew it, my fangs grew out and I sank them into the lower back of the man who carried me. Naturally, he dropped me in shock. I had his neck in my grip within seconds while his accomplice ran into the woods. I didn't know where the newfound strength came from seeing as I had just lost a lot of blood but I was suddenly deadly. "Who instructed you to dispose of me?" He hesitated. "Answer me right now! Was it Zander?!" "Zander?" He asked in confusion. My eyes seared holes into his head in fury. "Your current Alpha." "No...no, it wasn't him," he stuttered. He sounded genuinely confused but I was aware of the manipulation skills some wolves possessed. I leaned in closer to his ear and trailed a sharp nail claw along his collarbone. "Who was it then? And why the hell did they ask you to get rid of my baby?" His body jolted in fear. "Ba...b.. y? What are you talking about?" "You killed it, didn't you?" "I don't-" I dug a claw into his neck, ensuring not to go too deep although I wasn't sure for how long I could maintain my composure. His scream penetrated the night air but I was sure we were far deep in the woods. They were going to dump me here after all. "You're sure you don't know what I'm talking about?" I mumbled, reveling in his pain. "No," he cried. "I'm just a mere servant, I promise! I only did what I was told to do!" "Kill my baby?" I asked eagerly. My finger was posed to draw blood again if need be. "No! Dispose of you. That is all I was sent to do. We...we thought you were dead. We were told so. It's the only reason I agreed to do it. And...and the money. I know nothing about a baby!" "So, pray, tell me. Who sent you to dispose of me?"
