The night was cloaked in shadows as Audrey slipped out of the estate her heart pounding in her chest. She tugged her jacket tighter against the cool night air her senses heightened. The full moon cast a silvery glow over the clearing where Amelia had promised to meet her. Despite the danger of leaving the estate Audrey had felt compelled to meet her friend because there were too many unanswered questions and too much weighing on her heart.
Amelia appeared from the tree line her silhouette sharp against the moonlight. She moved with practiced ease her sharp blue eyes scanning the surroundings as she approached.
“You shouldn’t have come alone” Amelia said her voice low but firm.
“I needed to see you” Audrey replied stepping closer. “It’s not safe for you either. Why are you out here?”
