The days stretched on each one feeling heavier than the last. Audrey paced the length of the grand library the heels of her shoes clicking against the polished wooden floors. Her mind raced replaying fragments of Amelia’s face and the chilling thought of what might have happened to her. The fire crackled in the hearth but its warmth barely reached her. She clenched her fists her nails biting into her palms as she muttered “It’s been days and nothing… How could there still be nothing?” Martha entered quietly carrying a tray with tea and a light snack.
