Samantha's POV
I pulled into the shopping district and got out of the car, my sun hat threatening to blow away from the wind. I fixed my blouse, straightening it before leaning in and grabbing a handful of resumes to be handed out around the district. I knew I needed a job, and I knew I needed a job fast.
I fixed my purse and drew in a deep breath as I quickly moved through shops giving off my resumes and asking that they call if they were looking for anyone. After about an hour of this, I felt my phone vibrate. I reached into my pocket to grab it. I paused when I saw who was calling, "Hello?" I said coolly, "Hey, what are ya doing?" Chase's voice was cool, as he sounded a bit relaxed, unlike the usual tension sound that he has when he calls. I start walking again before I decide to tell him that I'm looking for a job when I hear a familiar voice. I look up shyly, trying not to get too much attention. Cynthia...I felt my cheeks go hot as I watched her walking down the sidewalk with two other people carrying bags filled with items. She was wearing black shorts and a small pink tank top. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail and she was wearing dark sunglasses.
"are you busy...I can call back?" I blinked for a moment before I realized Chase was still talking. "I, uh...I. no," I said, trying not to stutter as Cynthia casually walked closer. "Great, so I was thinking about the party we could meet at your dorm, and wear something that matched?" Cynthia walked closer, I let out a small sigh as I started to turn away. "Samantha, right?" I froze, holding my breath, I hoped that Cynthia would just go away and I could continue the conversation. "Hello? You're being very rude." I slowly turned around and looked at her. "Hello? Samantha?" I could barely hear Chase talking over my thoughts. Cynthia just smiled and pointed to the phone, "It's alright, I didn't realize you were busy." She stated before pulling out a small notebook from her purse. She wrote on it then handed it to me. "Call me sometime, I could use a friend." She smiled softly and nodded to the two that were with her before walking away. I looked down at the paper, I stared directly down at a phone number, with Cynthia written in neat cursive. "Samantha?" I heard it at least before the line went dead.
