Chapter 1

Aᴛʟᴀɴᴛᴀ, Gᴇᴏʀɢɪᴀ

As we stepped out of the limo I picked up a sleepy Jaylee and made sure my sister was close behind as we walked off into the building of where my mother's repast was being held. In all honesty I didn't wanna be surrounded by fake and devilish people. But this is my mother and I had to come for her.

I looked around at all the people and shook my head when I caught eye of my father and his gold digger ass wife. I walked over to a table and sat down. Tamia followed closely behind and sat down and laid her head down.

I sat quietly while others talked loud and kids ran around. This ain't no normal repast it's more like a party or family reunion. I started thinking back to my mother's will and how she wanted me to have custody of Tamia and have her move in with me. I was brought out of my thoughts when Jaylee started to move around in my arms to wake up.

I rubbed her back before she gained time to cry, which is normally something she did when she thought she was alone. She sat up rubbing her eyes and I tapped Tamia. She looked up wiping her eyes and looked at me. "Let's go get some food" i said before standing up and standing Jaylee up on the floor to walk towards the food table.

I grabbed two plates and filled my plate up with food and handed the other plate to Tamia. Once we finished fixing our food and walked over to the coolers and Tamia grabbed our drinks before following me back to my table.

When we sat down I saw a few unknown faces along with some of my older cousins. "Must be they friends" i mumbled placing Jaylee in the seat beside me and began feeding her.

A boy walked to the table and I started feeling bad because I sat Jaylee in his seat. I picked her up and sat her in my lap and continued to feed her. "Thanks" the boy mumbled and I returned him a head nod.

"Wassup Tahlia" one of the boys said causing me to give him a head nod. "Sorry for your lost" another spoke. I mumbled a 'thanks you' and placed a fork full or macaroni in my mouth.

"Jayleeee baby wassup ma-ma" my cousin Twan spoke making her get hype causing me to smile. I love seeing Jaylee happy. She climbed out of my lap and ran around the table to him and he picked her up.

"So you moving back down here Lia" he asked giving Jaylee a piece of his chicken. "Yea cause I got Tamia now and my apartment should be ready by tomorrow" i spoke picking up my ringing phone seeing it was an incoming FaceTime. Before I could read the name Siri beat me to it.

ᴊᴀʏʟᴇᴇ's ᴅᴀᴅ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴛᴏ ғᴀᴄᴇᴛɪᴍᴇ....

I answered and up popped his face. "How you holding up" he asked looking around as I realized he was outside "I'm straight" I said taking a bite out my chicken. "Where Jaylee" he asked as one of his friends walked up. "She right here" i spoke flipping the camera on her. He leaned in "was- you at a table full of niggas" he asked causing me to flip the camera back on me as I scrunched up my face.

"Jayquan you is not my nigga I am single" i said eating more food. "Mhm whatever give the phone to Jaylee" he said as I rolled my eyes. "Here Jaylee talk to your mad ass father" i said as they passed my phone to her. "Hwey da" she said sticking chicken in her mouth. "Mwe eat da" she said showing him Twan food. They continued to talk as me and Tamia sat and ate quietly.

Out the corner of my eye I saw my dad and that wife of his walking towards us causing me to roll my eyes and get up to throw away my trash and wash my hands. I walked back to the table and sat down ass Tamia held a fake smile talking to my dad.

I sat down and didn't say anything to anybody. "And who are you" his 'wife' asked me I rolled my eyes she know me she just don't know me know me.

"That's Tahlia, my sister" Tamia said in a low tone. "You ready to go" i asked Tamia while looking at Jaylee. "Yea" she said getting up to throw her plate in the trash and I got up and walked into the kitchen.

I looked around and saw my two aunties and 2 unknown women. "Hey auntie can I get three Togo plates" I asked before saying hello to everyone in the kitchen. "Yea" she said turning around and passing me three plates. "Y'all leaving" my other aunt asked. "Yea gotta go help Tamia pack her stuff, I gotta pack up moma stuff and some of my stuff that I left there" I said as I filled all three containers with food.

"Oh ok baby be safe and keep your head up your mom is in a better place" she said rubbing my back and putting the Togo plates in a bag along with a few drinks and cakes. I hugged my aunts and grabbed my bag and said bye to the ladies in the kitchen and walked out.

I walked over to the table and looked at Jaylee."We finna head out Twan we finna go to my moma house to pack up if y'all wanna help just come over, come on Jaylee" I said as Tamia grabbed our jackets and Jaylee diaper bag.

"We finna leave now to we'll come help I'll take Jaylee with me" he said standing up and following us outside as I got into my Uber along with Tamia. "Jaylee with Twan they finna help us pack hope they gonna help us move into that apartment tomorrow" i said as the Uber driver pulled off.

We reached the end of my mother's driveway and got out as Twan pulled up into the driveway. We walked up the driveway and stood on the doorstep until I got the door open. I walked into the kitchen and placed our food and stuff in the fridge before walking upstairs into my old room and grabbed a box and started packing.

The boy from earlier walked in holding an asleep Jaylee. "Wow she let you hold her she don't really like new people that easy" I said standing up to grab her. "I got her" he said before laying her in the bed and surrounding her with pillows.

I sat back down and continued to pack. He sat down beside me and started helping me pack up everything. "What's your name" i asked as I taped up the last box.

"Dang you don't remember me" he said standing up and dusting off his pants. "No not really" i said "I'ma let u find out on your own then" he said as I dusted off my pants. He was looking at something In the room. When I looked in the area he looked at me then walked out the room.

I followed behind him and into the living room. "Aye Twan she don't remember" he spoke taking a seat on the couch. "Dang Tahlia that's tuff" Tamia said sitting on the arm off the couch drinking a juice.

"I haven't seen nobody in 4 years how I'm supposed to remember somebody that quick besides this ain't no damn " I asked rolling my eyes and sitting beside Twan. "Go to yo i********: that you had in Highschool" Twan said handing me my phone.i clicked onto i********: and searched up my old account and started scrolling thru the old pictures.

"Damn" I said before looking up at the boy that now turned out to be Kamari. Kamari was my first everything in highschool. First boyfriend, first body, kiss, Bestfriend, first love. We broke up when I was sent to live with my grandma in South Georgia.

He looked me up and down and licked his lips "damn bae you got finer" he said making everybody laugh.
