After leaving the hospital, Luke took Celine to an upscale restaurant. Throughout their meal, he fussed over her attentively, making her heart swell with happiness.
"Do you have any news about my sister, Barbara, Luke?" she suddenly asked.
Luke looked at her before answering. "She's staying at that shabby apartment of hers. Why?"
Worry immediately crossed her face. "She's doing okay, isn't she?"
Madam Sofia reached over, gently squeezed her hand, and smiled reassuringly. "Stop worrying about her, Celine. You shouldn't be stressing yourself out, especially now that you're pregnant."
"I just can't help it, Auntie. I'm sure Sister Barbara still resents me."
A gentle smile spread across Madam Sofia's face. "You've done nothing wrong, Celine. Barbara was the one who failed in her marriage to Luke. She has no right to be angry with either of you. Just let her be. The important thing is that she won't bother you anymore."
"But... she went to Oceana yesterday, Tita. I'm just worried that because of how angry she is with Luke and me, she might end up doing something reckless."
Sofia immediately turned to her son. "Barbara went to Oceana yesterday?"
Luke nodded. "She did. But she wasn't able to accomplish anything."
"Not yet," Sofia muttered anxiously. "But what if she tries to harm Celine... or the baby?"
Celine secretly smiled to herself. If the day ever came when Barbara tried to get revenge for stealing her husband, Barbara wouldn't stand a chance. After all, Luke's entire family was on her side.
"Don't worry, Mom. She won't be able to get anywhere near Oceana again. I've already instructed the security guards not to let her in. Besides, there's nothing she can do anymore. She has nothing left. I made sure she won't be able to find any corporate job that could help her get back on her feet," Luke explained casually.
He had deliberately blocked Barbara's job applications at every company he could. It wasn't just because he feared she might endanger his future child. He simply didn't want Barbara to recover from her downfall. She deserved to stay at the bottom for the rest of her life.
"You did?" Sofia sighed in relief. "That's good. Then we have nothing more to worry about."
Celine looked at Luke and Madam Sofia with a troubled expression. "But... What about Sister Barbara's livelihood, Luke?"
Luke gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry about that. She can still find work—just not at any major company. I'm sure a small business will hire her. It should be enough for her to feed herself three times a day, right?"
Sofia immediately waved her hand dismissively. "Let's stop talking about her. She's not worth our time. Let's enjoy our meal. After this, we're going shopping, Celine."
"Really, Auntie?"
"Of course! You're carrying my son's child. It's only right that we spoil you."
Celine's smile grew even wider. This was the life she had always dreamed of. It just hadn't happened sooner because Barbara had always been so selfish with her wealth, even though they were sisters.
Now Barbara had lost everything.
What a fitting punishment.
They continued eating when Sofia suddenly noticed a familiar face. "Luke... isn't that Nate?"
Luke turned in the direction his mother was pointing. Sure enough, Nate was seated across the restaurant, engaged in conversation with another businessman.
"We should go greet him afterward, Luke. Now that you're the one running Oceana, perhaps we can establish a partnership with Stavros Logistics, don't you think?" Sofia said, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
For the longest time, she had been annoyed that old Mr. Stavros trusted Nate with a far greater portion of the Stavros Corporation.
But now that Luke had control of Oceana, she was certain they no longer had any reason to feel inferior whenever they faced him.
Luke nodded.
That had always been one of his goals.
Securing a partnership with Stavros Logistics would make Oceana even more powerful.
"Sure, Mom. I'll talk to him later, once he's finished with his meeting," Luke replied with a smile.
Meanwhile, Celine discreetly studied the man they were talking about.
"May I ask who he is, Tita?" she asked curiously.
"Oh, you haven't met him yet, have you?" Madam Sofia replied. "That's Nathaniel Stavros. He's Luke's uncle and the current CEO of Stavros Logistics Corporation."
The moment she heard that, Celine's interest was instantly piqued.
So that's Nathaniel...
What a remarkable catch.
Not only was he incredibly handsome, but he also held a far more influential position within the Stavros family than Luke himself…
