Chapter 14: "The Weight of Discipleship"
Fǎ Xiān looked at the three young cultivators with a serious expression. "If you wish to continue learning from me, you must make a decision amongst yourselves. If you decide to become my disciples, I will teach you everything I know, but in exchange, you will owe me five years of servitude."
The three friends looked at each other uncertainly, then back at Fǎ Xiān. "What does it mean to be a disciple?" Liè Rén asked.
"Ah, excellent question," Fǎ Xiān replied. "A disciple is a student who has sworn loyalty to their master, in exchange for guidance and teachings. It is a bond of mutual respect and trust."
"What are the benefits of being a disciple?" Qián Chén asked.
"Many," Fǎ Xiān said. "You will receive personalized teachings, guidance, and protection. You will also have access to resources and knowledge that are not available to others."
"What about the implications?" Xiǎo Lóng asked.
"Ah, yes," Fǎ Xiān said. "As a disciple, you will be expected to obey your master's orders without question. You will also be expected to maintain confidentiality and loyalty. And, of course, you will owe five years of servitude."
The three friends nodded, taking in the information. "Can we ask more questions?" Liè Rén asked.
"Of course, my young friends," Fǎ Xiān said with a smile. "Ask away."
And so, the three friends asked their questions, each one probing deeper into the implications and responsibilities of discipleship.
Liè Rén asked: "What if we disagree with our master's orders?"
Fǎ Xiān replied: "You must obey, but you can also seek clarification and guidance."
Qián Chén asked: "What if we fail in our duties?"
Fǎ Xiān replied: "You will be given opportunities to learn from your mistakes and improve."
Xiǎo Lóng asked: "What if we want to leave before the five years are up?"
Fǎ Xiān replied: "You will be released from your duties, but you must return any resources and knowledge given to you."
And so, the questions continued, each one answered patiently and honestly by Fǎ Xiān.
After two hours of questioning, the three friends left the room to discuss amongst themselves. They returned, determined and resolute.
"We have decided to become your disciples," Liè Rén said, bowing his head.
Fǎ Xiān smiled, his eyes shining with warmth. "I accept. Let us begin our journey together."
Chapter 14: "The Weight of Discipleship"
Fǎ Xiān continued, his eyes serious. "As my disciples, your servitude will be to take on missions assigned by me. You will fight opponents, gather resources, and complete tasks to the best of your abilities. In return, I will share the proceeds among the four of us, according to your talent."
"Talent?" Liè Rén repeated, his brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"Ah, yes," Fǎ Xiān explained. "Talent refers to your potential and how fast you can achieve it. It is based on your roots, your affinity to the elements. Some people have a natural talent for fire, others for water, and so on."
Qián Chén nodded, his eyes wide with understanding. "I see. So, our talent will determine how much of the proceeds we receive?"
Fǎ Xiān nodded. "Exactly. The more talented you are, the more you will receive. But remember, talent is not just about natural ability. It is also about hard work and dedication."
Xiǎo Lóng frowned. "But what if we fail? What if we can't complete a mission?"
Fǎ Xiān's expression turned stern. " Failure is not an option. You will be given opportunities to learn from your mistakes, but repeated failure will result in... consequences."
The three friends exchanged nervous glances, but Fǎ Xiān's words were clear: success was the only option.
As they nodded, Fǎ Xiān continued. "Now, let us discuss your roots. Liè Rén, you have a fire affinity. Qián Chén, you have a water affinity. And Xiǎo Lóng, you have a wood affinity."
The three friends looked at each other, their eyes shining with excitement. They knew that their roots would determine their path in cultivation, and they were eager to begin.
Fǎ Xiān smiled, his eyes warm. "Ah, yes. With your roots and talent, I have no doubt that you will achieve great things. Now, let us begin your training. Your first mission is to gather a rare herb, the 'Golden Lotus', in the nearby mountains. It is said to have powerful healing properties, and I need it for a potion."
The three friends nodded, their faces set with determination. They knew that their journey as disciples had begun.
