A sleek black wagon glided smoothly to a stop behind her Koenigsegg,
The figure emerged from the black wagon, donning a sleek black suit that accentuated his confident demeanour. He marched towards the person seated on the grass with long strides passed her a coat and said" It's cold outside, Madam. Allow me to assist you to your residence "
The sight of a coffered LED ceiling in the shades of grey, black and white was the first thing that greeted her eyes upon waking. The whole Briggs Manor was designed in the same taste as instructed by them. This was their home ever since they married and was situated remotely far from the main city.
She stirred awake not long ago, and recollections from the previous day flooded her thoughts.
"She had no other place to go back to besides Briggs Manor. Strangely, when she departed Briggs Enterprise in tears, it seemed as though no one even bothered to come and check for her, as if he was unaware that he was caught red-handed.
However, amidst crying and stumbling her way towards her car parked outside, she couldn't mistake the noises and the loud gasp left by his PA calling her name while she was in no state to confront him.
Great.
Everyone would know now, that their boss cheated on his wife with...
Who was she?
"Serena" a voice that she had not expected to hear from called and that startled her. When her husband came that morning, she was in the sunroom sipping into her coffee that had turned cold. She had forgotten about it while lost in her thoughts, the scene from the previous night plaguing her mind.
Swiftly, she brushed her cheek, shielding her face from his side glance, while she cleared her throat to ensure her voice didn't betray any recent tears, and inquired softly, "Yes?"
As the morning sun ascended high in the sky, it bathed the sunroom in natural radiance, casting a warm glow upon her hair, making it gleam with a golden hue, while her eyes took on the gentlest shade of green in the sunlight.
He hesitated mid-sentence, his gaze lingering on her as if something struck him, softening his expression briefly. However, that fleeting warmth vanished swiftly, replaced by a mask of coldness. What he uttered next sent tremors through her.
"Sign these divorce papers."
He made no effort to clarify or justify his actions, as though assuming I should have anticipated this outcome. What stung the most was his apparent lack of concern. Three years of a relationship followed by two years of marriage, seemingly for nought.
He left me feeling as though love was merely a fleeting moment, and as I accepted the divorce papers from him, I sensed the final remnants of my heart shattering into dust. It was so overwhelming that I couldn't contain the brokenness within me, and in a shattered whisper, I couldn't help but ask, "Why?"
As if caught off-guard, he looked as if he had not prepared for this question. Maybe he wished for this to end soon and so dropped the most hurtful words that I would have heard from him
"I am not in love with you anymore".
He was still in his shirt from yesterday which had now formed wrinkles. With sleeves rolled, black trousers and a Rolex watch on his wrist. He looked as ethereal as he always was. Her favourite thing about him was his hair that she always liked to play with when his midnight-black orbs would be staring at her. Those moments now remain only as a distant memory. Maybe he did not feel the same about me somewhere on the way, or maybe it was never love.
So when he threw those words at me, I tried distracting myself from the pain that I felt but how could I when the man who made me feel the happiest once now stood before me giving me the worst pain and demanding my signature?
So I gave in.
It pained me when I realized it had always been one-sided, that he did not even care to explain or apologize. A marriage just because you find each other attractive and were attached to never lasts.
He was everything for me and him, I was nothing.
He took a copy of the signed documents and left, both from the house and my life. He did not leave showing me he was heartless but also the lipstick stain on the back of his shirt, probably unaware.
But not me, I got to know then that it was never me that was the problem but he, who was a dickhead. It was him, always him.
I loved him but stopped being loved back soon after. Today, as you leave me here denying all the vows that we made to each other, there’s nothing but disappointment that I feel. I can’t bring myself to hate you but I did unlove you.
“The only thing that you did and I never expected was that you cheated, Nathan” A pained whisper left her mouth as a single drop of tear fell above her signature on the divorce agreement that she held.
“She was seen packing her belongings by the cleaning staff after you left, Mr. Briggs” a man reported as the CEO of Briggs Enterprise, a self-made billionaire sat in his chair overlooking the city from the floor-to-ceiling window of his skyscraper.
He hummed in agreement as a response when the door to his office was flung open and a figure barged into his office.
“I bought you lunch” a high-pitched voice announced as she walked swaying her hips to his office. Her stature was tall and lean, and at the same time curved in the right places. Knowing his presence was not required, the man quickly slipped through the door after giving his report.
"You didn't have to I had brunch a while ago" he replied but still went to take over the bag before keeping it aside and engaging in a minute-long kiss. They were both pressed against the table as he leaned over her. Her one hand was on the table while the other grabbed his collar pulling him closer. On the other hand, he pressed his body against her as his one hand grabbed her small waist keeping her in place and the other held the back of her head.
"Did you get her sign"
"Hmmm," he hummed in a deep drawl.
What they did not notice was that someone stood at the door watching them as a dark look formed on their face.
"Seems like someone is unable to keep his d**k in his pants"
And that made the couple pause as they both turned to look at the person who dared to disturb their intense moment.
