BLOODSTONE PACK
Axton Valtor barged into the living room with his phone in his hands—a picture displaying Zara hugging Damian—staring at the empty room furiously, breathing heavily.
“Where is she?” Axton growled, furiously scanning the empty room.
Marcus, Axton's beta, stepped in and noticed his tension. “Alpha, who are you searching for?” He asked curiously.
Axton's breaths came in sharp gasps, as if the air was stolen from him. His curse was taking over, slowing his blood circulation, making it difficult for him to breathe.
“Where's Zara?” He half-yelled, trying to maintain his neutral composure.
Axton had inherited his curse from his grandfather, who was also an Alpha. The curse's root was unknown. Whenever he transforms into his wolf, he seems to be out of control, and when he changes to his human form, mysterious shadowy tendrils—inky veins—spread across his body, inducing madness, weakness, and uncontrollable rage. Draining his blood which could lead to death, his grandfather died from it.
“I don't know. Ever since the meal, I haven't seen her,” Marcus replied, his gaze shifting to the tendrils sipping through Axton's neck.
Axton clenched his jaw and tried to picture Zara; however, he could only imagine her hugging Damian, igniting his fury. “Find her. Find her and bring her to me!”
Zara being the only cure to his curse according to the witch doctor. The witch doctor told him he should always be with her for at least 48 hours so the curse would subside—it is the only reason he had helped her that night.
But it hasn't been up to 24 hours, and he wondered what could have set it off.
“Zara….” He moaned, still clenching his phone.
Crescent moon pack.
The grand ballroom was still engulfed with heavy silence, tension thick as every pair of eyes was locked on Zara.
Her bold demand echoed in the vast space, bouncing through the wall like a battle cry.
Damian released his embrace from her, and she tilted her head and repeated her words.
“Step down,” her bold claim threatened.
Damian's soft expression suddenly darkened into a scowl, his eyebrows arching.
Zara knew the rules of the pack, and it was impossible for an Alpha to step out of his position if …
Kael then let out a short laugh, his lips curled in amusement as he spoke, “You must be kidding. Do you think this is a child's playground? You cannot come here, making an outrageous claim, and expect the alpha to step down just because you want him to.”
Murmurs erupted again from the crowd, mixed with disbelief and intrigue.
Damian, on the other hand, still couldn't believe the woman before him; he knew she was either a con or just simply lying, but he decided to play along.
He cleared his throat and spoke, “I don't understand why you want me to do that. If you are truly Zara's sister, you should know the rules and regulations of your pack.” He paused, then took a step forward, his gaze darkened while a grin appeared on his face. “Or are you just a con, claiming to be Zara's twin—a twin no one has ever heard of—and demanding I relinquish my throne?”
Zara remained calm, staring at her former lover's eyes, but all she could see was betrayal and malice, and she wanted to slap that smile off his face, she knew better than to cause a scene, and so she chuckled.
“I knew you were going to say that,” She paused, then smacked her lips before turning to Tiana. Seeing Tiana in a maid's dress made her blood boil.
“However, you weren't entitled to the position….”
“That is enough!!” Kael yelled at her, disrupting the air once more and sending it into complete silence except the clicking of the cameras.
“Raz. You came all the way claiming to be Zara's sister, yet you know nothing about Zara and even accused her fiancé of killing her. You have no right to do such a thing and as a result, we'll have to ask you to leave… forcefully”
Zara's eyes were still on Tiana, and suddenly an idea popped in her head; she had completed what she'd come here for, to cause a scene of another Zara who was a potential threat, and to get her sister Tiana.
“Fine!” Zara declared. “I will leave but not without Tiana,” she said and began walking over to Tiana, but Damian stopped her again by grabbing her hands.
Zara spun abruptly to him, and yanked her hands away, scowled her face. “Don’t lay a hand on me with those filthy hands of yours, those cold-blooded hands that took my sister's life”
A collective gasp escaped from everyone’s lips, followed by murmurs.
“Is what she's saying true? Did our supposed Alpha truly kill his finance because he wanted the position to himself?’
“The Alpha hasn't given many reasons to deny the accusations. Who knows?”
“What if she's an imposter or a spy?”
Zara walked up to where Tiana was and grabbed her. “Come on, we’re leaving,” she said, but Tiana refused to go.
Zara was shocked and turned to her, cupping her 18-year-old sister in her palm. “It's okay, Tiana. You can trust me.”
Tears rolled from Tiana's eyes, and she shook her head. “I can't,” she sniffed her nose.
Zara's eyes grew bewildered as she watched her sister deny her freedom. She was confused about what Damian did to her.
“It's okay. We can go now.”
“You're not my sister!” Tiana raised her voice, stepping away from Zara, and walked up to Damian, hiding behind him.
“What has gotten into her? Doesn't she remember who I am? I know I have changed, but it's still me, Zara reckoned with disbelief.
“You may leave!” A guard walked up to Zara, grasped her hands.
Momentarily, The exit door burst open, and a swarm of men from another pack came in.
Zara turned to see Marcus. Immediately their eyes met; he halted and spoke. “The Alpha needs you immediately,” he said in a hoarse voice.
However, Zara ignored him and turned to Tiana. “Let's go, Tia. You'll be free,” she said, with her hands stretched out, but Tiana just shook her head.
“We have to go, Luna,” Marcus said, making everyone stunned again. As they walked closer to her, she felt an eerie energy radiating in her, and then suddenly, she grabbed Tiana’s arms aggressively.
“Tell me what happened to you. Why are you doing this with this monster?” Zara yelled, oblivious to the pain she was causing Tiana.
“You're hurting me,” Tiana whimpered, but Zara still held onto her arms.
In an instant, Zara's hands morphed into massive claws as she tightened her grip on Tiana.
Marcus tried freeing her hold, but it was too strong for him too.
“You're hurting her. She's bleeding, someone said from the crowd.
Zara then glanced at her hands and saw the claw had dug into Tiana's arms, thereby making them bleed, she let go immediately, and a pang of guilt hit her.
“I am… I am sorry,” she apologized, genuinely remorseful, but Tiana only cried and ran out of the ballroom.
The crowd seemed to be distancing herself from Zara, then a comment from the crowd rang, “Why is her hair glowing?”
“Is she a witch?”
Zara, in disbelief, turned to a glass window and saw her reflection; her hair had turned grey and was glowing.
“What is this?” She mumbled, confused about her situation.
“Is she? No, it can't be.” Damian, who had been observing the impersonator, thought to himself. “They've been extinct for 500 years.”
“We'll be leaving. We apologize for the commotion she has caused. She woke up from a coma, and things just kind of changed. Once again, we apologize,” and with that, Marcus took Zara out while looking disheveled.
Damian was still standing in disbelief at what he had witnessed. He wasn't concerned with the chaos of his party nor the ruins but was intrigued to know who the lady was.
“Whoever she is, she is the answer I've been looking for. the answer to all my questions and key to my treasure. I must claim her as my mate”
