Chapter 8

757 Words
We decided to talk over dinner. The urge to eat food did overcome the feeling of anxiousness that his presence caused. I was still dreading his questions which were about to begin any minute. I didn’t want those horrible memories back. We ordered our food. The silence between us was scaring the hell out of me. I was well aware of his piercing gaze which was burning holes in me. I looked anywhere but his eyes. But wait, why am I scared…?? I haven’t done anything wrong. His voice interrupted my thoughts. “Why did you run away, yesterday?” “Uh… I had some work assigned which I had forgotten.” I lied. “Lie.” “Why would I lie? And first of all my personal or professional life is none of your concern.” “It is when it comes to my brother whom you had addressed as ‘Rihaan’ yesterday.” he air quoted Fuck! I want to run away. I don’t want to answer his questions. God plz help me! I started looking around to see if anyone could rescue me, but no. My luck too was on vacations… “Fine! Let’s not beat around the bush. Straight to the point” his statement had me looking at him. He continued. “I know everything about you Miss Makrow, and I’m also well aware of your past with Rihaan. I’ll help you get him back.” Ouch! That was harsh. “What?”was all I could say. “You heard me right, I’ll help you win him over.” Enough Mr. Annoying “Enough of your crap Mr. Walter. First of all I have no idea what you want from me or why are you so interested in helping me. Secondly, I don’t want to win over Rihaan. Why would I? You don’t need to win over someone you love. Love isn’t something you gamble with. And if you know everything about me then you should be well aware of the fact that he was all I had, but he’s long gone. The person you are talking about is Richard, not Rihaan. Rihaan died in the accident 7 years ago. Even if they are the same person I’m referring to, they still are poles apart. “I was almost shouting at him. He didn’t say anything. He was just staring at me and then a small smile crept on his lips. Just then the waiter arrived with our food. I had lost all my appetite in the outburst. “You are seriously something Ms. Makrow. I always wondered what Rihaan saw in you but now…” he trailed off. “What now?” “Nothing.” “Not again.  Not another cliffhanger.” I rolled my eyes in annoyance. He chuckled in response. I don’t know why but a smile made its way to my lips. We just sat there in silence. It wasn’t awkward but rather comfortable. I felt a heaviness lift over me, with everything out. He finally broke the ice. “To answer your question, he had amnesia after that accident.” My eyes widened in response. He continued. “Yes, he survived the accident but lost his memory. He didn’t remember anything. The doctor said that he will naturally come around responding to any stimulation. But after all these years, there’s no progress. I miss my brother as much as you do. We didn’t connect like we were before. Dad was disturbed too. Mom gave him his new name ‘Richard’. I don’t know why she insisted on changing his name. And ya, he too was everything I had just like you. All I want is him back, just the way he was.” To say I was shocked would be an understatement. This was too much for me to take in, all at once. Right now I was only aware of the fact that the person sitting infront of me had suffered just as much as I did, if not so more. He was craving for the only thing he ever loved just like me. We had so much in common. “Now if all of your questions are answered, do you intend to team up?” he asked expectantly.
