BARELY CONSCIOUS

1346 Words
Unknown POV: Everything around me felt strange and out of place. I could hear people talking in the distance and their voices were muffled. I felt a lot of pain everywhere and could not open my eyes at all to find out what was happening. All I knew was that I had taken a violent fall somewhere and then lost consciousness. And then, I don't know how long later, I felt warm hands touching me as if they were examining me. Since I didn't know where I was and those hands were weird, I instinctively grunted and tried to pull away from them, and that's when I heard someone say in a melodious voice, "Calm down, it's okay. We're taking care of you. " It was a female voice, but I didn't recognize it. And since I didn't know where I was either, contrary to what I was advised, I panicked and tried to struggle to get away from the warm touch. Did she say "we?" who were these people? I had no idea. But I realized that as much as I struggled to get rid of her, my efforts got me nowhere. I was too tired to open my eyes, and my limbs felt like lead. I simply could not escape those hands. I felt some movement around me and it felt as if the woman reached out beyond my head and pressed a device to the wall, and then I heard a distant noise of approaching footsteps and then the noise of a door opening and I realized that someone else had entered the room. Was this woman who asked me not to panic asking for help in dealing with me? I got even tenser when I heard this second person approaching me with heavy steps, heavier than the woman's, and when I made a move to move away from both of them, another pair of hands, heavier than the first ones, touched my shoulders. These hands had the wrong temperature too. they were icy cold and soon I shivered at the new touch. "Stay calm, child," a male voice told me, and then continued, "We're here to help you," and then the second voice said to the first, "Call the alpha immediately." I was even more terrified as I realized that this couple would likely hand me over to a third person, who by title was apparently their leader. I could only imagine what they would do to me, and each scenario that I imagined was even worse than the previous one. A few moments later, the door was opened again, and even heavier footsteps dominated the room. I could feel electricity charging the air as if something important was going to happen or as if lightning was close to hitting the ground at the beginning of a storm. Wait a minute, I think lightning has already happened. I have the impression that I came here because of a clap of thunder. I know, that would probably be impossible, but I believe that something was related to thunder, but unfortunately, I can't remember exactly what happened. "Doc, you told me she was already awake," a male voice, more attractive than the first two, resonated through the room. He didn't speak out loud, but the air around us vibrated and it seemed like time stopped at that moment. There was something about the owner of this voice that called out to me. "She's already woken up, Alpha Axel, but her eyes aren't ready to open yet," the "Doc" told the third man. Alpha Axel huffed in frustration as if the fact of me opening my eyes was the most important thing that would happen this century. I was really trying to open my eyes or express some more reaction because I was genuinely curious about that man, but I was still very tired, and I was in a lot of pain, so I still couldn't get enough strength to react to the way I should. "I think it's going to take a little while yet, Alpha Axel," the first voice, the female voice, told him as if comforting him. I started to wonder who this woman was and why she seemed so close to Alpha Axel, and it genuinely pissed me off. Well, at least a part of me fumed and a voice in my head asked these questions. That part of my consciousness stirred and I felt a hot, liquid rage building in my stomach. Suddenly, I heard a grunt that seemed to come from I don't know where, and I was startled to hear it. But that growl didn't seem to startle any of the others in the room. Instead, the Doc chuckled quietly and said, "Looks like she can hear us already, Alpha Axel, and she looks like she's jealous of you." After Doc said those words I realized that I was the one who made that weird grunt. How could I have made a noise without even realizing I had made it? Continuing the conversation, Doc, who didn't make much of my grunt, turned back to the Alpha and told him, "I think Tina's right. It won't be long now and she'll wake up soon." I knew this 'she' he had mentioned was me. Alpha Axel seemed to accept the words Doc told him, so after sighing, he replied, "Okay, I'll stay here with her until she has the strength to open her eyes. I want to be the first thing she sees when she fully wakes up, and I need to know more about her." Alpha Axel then came to stand beside me. I could feel his presence next to me as if an electric current ran through my body. More about who? More about me? Unfortunately, I couldn't remember anything but my first name, and that was all. I would not be of much help in his inquisition and would soon be discarded. Of that I was sure, and I was also sure that if people here were being nice to me and asking me to be calm, most likely in other places they wouldn't be as nice as here, and I've been warned before about the hostility such a species might have, and I feared that soon I would be at the mercy of such hostility. Wait another minute. I've been warned, but by who? I wasn't sure and I couldn't remember a thing that could help me. And all this effort was making my head throb. I was in big trouble, and I knew that. The Doc, however, didn't seem to care about anything other than Alpha Axel's decision, and in response to Alpha's demand, he muttered, "Okay, make yourself comfortable, Alpha Axel, but it could be that it will take her a while to wake up. Maybe she's not quite ready for what she's going to find yet," he warned at last. "I don't care, Doc. I just want to be here for her. As I said, I want to be the first thing she sees when she opens her eyes," Alpha Axel replied and then took one of my hands. Now, that was a right touch. A light current of electricity coursed through my body, and I felt good. I felt like I was at home. A little more reassured by Alpha Axel's words, I fell back into a deep sleep and I don't know how long I was unconscious. Sometime later, though, I felt like I was regaining consciousness. I felt my arms and legs lighter as if my body was again responding to my brain's command. I gasped with a little pain, more endurable than the pain I felt before. Suddenly, I felt warm, firm hands touching me, and I felt again that small electrical impulses like sparks traveling across my skin from where he had touched me. It felt like that touch had finally given me the strength I needed to open my eyes, and when I finally managed to open them, what I saw was startling and left me speechless.
