Chapter 8

1055 Words
Flynn From where I was sitting, the beach was swaying. Turns out I am not as good at beer pong as I thought, or maybe it was the shots I was taking during the game that did it. Nevertheless, I am hammered. I look to my left and see Emma passed out under my arm. "f**k!" I groan as I try to move without waking her up. What did I end up doing last night?! You kept thinking about Lilah. Jett answered me. It was coming back to me in dribs and drabs. I just kept making shots every time I thought of her. Clearly, that was not my finest decision. I gently wriggle my arms free from underneath Emma's shoulder and shuffle along the couch. I lean forward and run my hands through my hair. When will I learn? My Dad is going to be furious. Another night I didn't return home. I quietly creep through the house between the sleeping/passed out people and out the front door. I find my alcohol-soaked shirt and throw it on for the walk home. fifteen minutes later and I am standing on my front porch steps trying to muster up the courage to walk through the doors. I check the time on my phone, 7:00AM. My Dad would be awake by now. Even on a Sunday. My only Hail Mary might be if he has gone straight to his office this morning instead of making his usual big breakfast. I put my key in the door and turn it quietly until I head the click of the lock. I cautiously push the door open and shut it quietly behind me. Tip-toeing through the foyer, I beeline for my room down the hall on the right. "Flynn!" I hear my Dad's voice boom from the kitchen. Crap. Crap. Double crap. I hang my head and walk towards his voice. Jett has abandoned ship, leaving my head empty. He is sitting on his chair with a cup of coffee in his hand. He looks at me expectantly when I make it through the doors. "Been out for an early run this morning, have we?" He asks. He's playing with me. "No sir." I answer polietly. "Sunrise training session?" He questions. He is enjoying this. "No sir." I repeat, keeping my head low. "So, tell me, where would the future Alpha of Red Shadow Pack, and my eldest son, be so early on a Sunday morning?" He stands up now, showing his tall and powerful stance. The perfect Alpha. "I was at a friend's house." I answer quietly. "Whose house was this?" Dad pushes. I know he already knows but just wants me to say it. "Kellan." I almost whisper, still keeping my eye-line down. "Thats where that party was last night, wasn't it?" Dad acts surprised. He is a terrible actor. Lucky it is not in the Alpha job description, I think to myself. "Yes sir." I respond. "So my son, the future Alpha of our pack, was out at a party last night, didn't come home and when he did finally return he is followed by the stench of alcohol and stale perfume?!" His voice is starting to show his anger now. "I'm sorry sir." I mutter. "I've just about had enough of this behavior, Flynn! Every weekend there is a different party, a different girl! That is not how the future Alpha is supposed to behave. You are meant to represent our pack, our family! You are nearly eighteen for goodness sake! In a month, you will be able to find your true mate. Do you think she will want you when you have been with most of the she-wolves in our pack already?!" Dad is frustrated now. He is pacing back and forth through the living room running his hands through his hair in exasperation. "I'm sorry, I will do better." I respond, "I have even got a tutor to help make up for lessons I have missed recently." I try to defend myself, show that I am trying. "I will need more than that!" Dad almost yells. "What is going on in here?!" Mum exclaims as she rushed into the living room between us, "Its 7:00AM! Why are we already yelling?!" She looks between Dad and I, examining my clothes, before nodding. She knows what this is about. Dad slumps down on the couch in defeat. "Head to your room, Flynn, and have a shower." she orders me before sitting beside my father on the couch. I can hear them talking about me as I walk down the hall. I have really done it this time. I check my phone once I am out of the shower. Emma: Where did you disappear to? Urgh! I am an i***t. I quickly write a blunt reply. Me: Had to get home. It was only seconds before my phone vibrated from its position, charging on my bedside table. Emma: I missed you when I woke up. I had fun last night x I don't even remember what we did last night. Surely, I would know if I did anything stupid... I doubt you would remember anything from last night. Jett finally re-joins me. Thanks for leaving me to the wolves! I joke. Jett is amused. I decide to ask Jake if he knows what I did or didn't do with Emma last night. Hopefully he will remember. Pretty soon my phone vibrates again. I'm surprised he is even awake at this time. Jake: You didn't do anything with Emma. You were f****d, but not that f****d. Emma just wouldn't leave you alone. I am instantly relieved by Jake's response. My phone vibrates again. Jake: You did keep talking about that new girl though. Wouldnt shut up! Even in my drunken state, I can't get Lilah off my mind. I type a reply. Me: Thank Goddess! How come you are up so early? Jake: Mum has organised a family day again... we are going to the Waterslide Wonderland! I'm sure you can sense my enthusiasm through text... please, please, kill me now. I laughed out loud at Jake's message. I cannot think of anything worse than going to a water park hungover. I lay back on my bed, staring at my ceiling. Suddenly I remember... I have Lilah's number.
