Chapter 13

1031 Words
“You need to stop thinking about her and just move on. You're only wasting your time.” A woman's voice purred seductively, her voice coming out like honey. Her fingers trailed over Damien's hairy chest sliding up to his neck. She leaned closer lowering her lips to his neck but was stopped when Damien hand shot out and caught her shoulder, pushing her back. A warning glare crossed his eyes as he tried to calm himself down. The woman cowered knowing that she had struck a nerve. She always forgot who she was dealing with. With slumped shoulders, she muttered submissively, “I'm sorry” “You always do this and then act innocent. I've already made it clear that she's the only woman I love” Damien said in a sharp tone which sliced through the air like a blade. “I'll not forgive this stupid mistake next time. Watch your mouth, Selene.” The way he spat out her name felt as though the word had left a poisonous taste on his tongue. She pushed herself from where she had been sitting on her thigh, her heels clicking against the concrete floor as she put a distance between them. She could barely make out the outline of his face in the dimly lit apartment. Anger radiated off her slim figure but she tried to remain calm. “You have a very twisted way of showing your so-called love, you know that right?” Selena spat bitterly with a sneer, a heated glare directed at him. “If she really felt loved, I don't think she'd leave you in the first place. Her body is covered with bruises from your so-called love. You're a depraved man, Damien. You're not in love with her. You just want to own her. You're crazy.” Damien leaned back against the leather sofa, his jaw tightening as every word that left her lips struck something that he hasn't acknowledged yet. He folded his hand into a tight fist as he tried not to hit her, exhaling through his nose. “I'm not trying to own her. She already belongs to me. She hasn't realised that yet. That's why she keeps trying to run away from me.” He finally said after a long amount of time had passed, his voice low yet laced with frustration. His eyes flickered towards the tiny frame on the table,a smile curling on his lips as he stared at the picture of Elara. “Forcing her to be with me…” he gestured vaguely, his smile widening. “...is the only way she can be with me. She has been mine since the first day I met her. Even way before that.” Selene’s face twisted with disgust. “You're a psychopath, Damien. That woman f*****g hates you. I bet she regrets the day she met. You ruined her f*****g life. Love isn't something you…” “Enough! I don't need your meaningless sermon. You're not any different than I am.” Damien snapped cutting her off,his voice rising with uncontrolled rage. He stood, his larger frame towering over her, causing Selene to cower instinctively even though she tried to be brave. “You only act like a saint when it is you. You have no idea what Elara does to my brain. You killed your own father and now… you're trying to act like I'm the monster. We're both sick but the difference between the both of us is that I've accepted that and you're still in denial. Elara is mine and she doesn't have a choice.” Selene’s lips trembled with unspoken rage before she found her words again. “Forget about her. Like you said… we're both sick in the head. We're like a perfect match made in heaven. I've offered to be yours willingly but you…” her voice cracked, unable to keep up with the brave front. “I feel like you're only using me. I'm not a f*****g therapist. It hurts hearing you talk about another woman when I'm here… waiting for you to notice me. You don't even see me.” But Damien’s expression didn't even change. He stared at her with eyes devoid of warmth and softness. “I told you from the start.” He finally said in a dismissive voice. She felt her heart break at how he tossed her feelings aside like they were irrelevant. “I feel something for you but… it's not love. I love someone else.” Selene’s nails dug into her palm, her face turning red with anger. He had told her from the start but she had foolishly fallen for him. She knew about Elara. She always did but she had thought he'd get over her and finally love her back. She hated Elara so much for taking the one thing she wanted. If only she had met him before her. No one understood her the way he does. He didn't judge her. He accepted her but she was tired of being a second choice. Someone he stayed with because he couldn't have who he truly wanted. “I really have other things to do during my free time” she hissed, her body trembling with rage, “why did you demand I come over, Damien? Is it so you can tell me how you love that pathetic woman?” He didn't respond immediately, the silence stretching between them. The tension in the air was so thick that it could be cut through with a knife. Selene's chest rose and fell quickly, her bloodshot eyes burning into his. And then a sly smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. The hair on the back of her neck rose at the dangerous look in his eyes. Taking a step forward and another, stopping when he was directly in front of her he leaned down until his lips were only a few inches away from her ear. Brushing the loose strand of hair behind her ear,he whispered. “You're here my darling…” he said softly almost in a loving voice that caused her heart to skip a beat. “... because I have a very special job for you.”
