EPISODE 2 : THE MAN WHO FOUND HIM

851 Words
The classroom was still filled with whispers. Asher could feel every pair of eyes following him, even though nobody dared to walk up and ask him questions. That had never happened before. For years, he had perfected the art of being invisible. He walked through the halls of Blackthorn Academy without drawing attention. He kept his head down, spoke only when necessary, and never allowed anyone to get close enough to discover the truth he carried. But one look from Lucas Draven had changed everything. Now, people were curious. And curiosity was dangerous. “You know everyone is staring at you, right?” Noah walked beside him, his hands in his pockets as they moved through the crowded hallway. Asher ignored the students around them. “They’ll get bored eventually.” Noah looked at him. “You really believe that?” “Yes.” “No, you don’t.” Asher stopped walking. Noah sighed. “You always do this.” “Do what?” “You pretend everything is fine when it clearly isn’t.” For a moment, Asher said nothing. Because he didn’t know how to explain something he barely understood himself. How could he tell Noah that a stranger’s eyes had brought back memories he had spent years trying to forget? How could he explain that Lucas Draven felt familiar in a way that made no sense? “I’m fine,” Asher finally said. Noah gave him a disappointed look. “One day, you’re going to realize that saying those two words doesn’t actually make them true.” Before Asher could reply, the bell rang. Students began moving toward their next classes. But Asher remained still for a moment. Because he could still feel it. That strange connection. Like someone had reached into the past and pulled him back toward a life he never knew. --- Later that afternoon, Asher sat alone in the library. It was his favorite place in Blackthorn Academy. Quiet. Peaceful. A place where nobody expected anything from him. Books were easier to understand than people. History was easier to understand than his own life. He opened an old book about the Beast Clans, mostly because something about the title caught his attention. The Lost Bloodlines of the Northern Kingdoms. Asher almost closed it immediately. Almost. But then he saw the symbol on the page. A silver wolf. His hand froze. The same symbol carved into the wooden wolf he had carried since childhood. His heartbeat increased. Impossible. He leaned closer and read the passage beneath it. The royal bloodline of the fallen kingdom disappeared twenty years ago. The last heir was believed to have died on the night of the palace m******e. Asher stared at the words. Twenty years ago. The same time period as his nightmare. The same night he could never remember. A shadow fell across the table. “You should be careful about what you search for.” Asher immediately looked up. Lucas Draven stood there. The same man from earlier. The same man who seemed to know things he shouldn’t. Asher closed the book. “What do you want?” Lucas studied him. “You already know the answer.” “No. I don’t.” Lucas pulled out the chair opposite him and sat down. For the first time, Asher noticed something strange. Despite his reputation, despite his power, Lucas did not look like someone who had come to threaten him. He looked tired. Like someone who had carried a burden for a very long time. “You have questions.” Asher’s expression remained cold. “And you have answers?” “Yes.” The simple reply surprised him. Asher leaned back. “Then start talking.” Lucas looked at him carefully. “Your name isn’t Asher Knight.” The words landed harder than expected. Asher felt his fingers tighten. “What?” “Your name was given to you after you were hidden away.” A strange feeling moved through his chest. “Who am I?” Lucas was silent for a moment. Then he said the words that changed everything. “You are the last surviving heir of the Silver Moon Kingdom.” Asher stared at him. The library suddenly felt too quiet. “That’s impossible.” “I thought the same thing twenty years ago.” Lucas looked away briefly. “Until I saw you survive.” Asher’s mind raced. The dreams. The palace. The wooden wolf. The voice telling him to run. They weren’t random. They were pieces of a past he had lost. “Why are you telling me this now?” Lucas’s eyes returned to him. “Because someone else knows you’re alive.” A cold silence followed. Asher’s expression changed. “Who?” Lucas stood. “The people who destroyed your kingdom.” And for the first time in twenty years, Asher felt something he thought he had forgotten. Fear. Not for himself. But for the truth that was finally coming back. Because some secrets were buried for a reason. And some enemies waited patiently for the day their lost prince would return.
