"Oh God!"
Livia straightened up, her expression serious.
"I know this is irresponsible, but I'm done with this marriage."
"Darling, I'm not blaming you."
Seeing Nina on the verge of tears, Livia felt a wave of guilt. "I'm just worried. Being a single mom is tough. How long has it been?"
"Six weeks."
"Does Fred know?"
"He does."
"So you left because he didn't care?"
Nina shook her head.
"He'll come looking for you, right?" Livia crouched beside Nina, looking up at her.
"Can you lend me two or three thousand dollars?" Nina met her gaze. "I'll leave tomorrow and won't burden you. I'll pay you back once I find a job."
"No, no, no, that's not what I mean." Livia placed her hand on Nina's knee. "You saved my life. I'll give you everything to help you. I don't care if Fred retaliates.
