AURELIA’S POV
It downed me immediately, and I felt stupid; It was a humiliation. Something in me told me to turn around and leave, but I still couldn't move. Every ounce of meekness in me towards Cassie disappeared, I didn't care about the bastard she was with on the bed.
“Laurent! What…how…?” I stammered as I got a clearer view of the man on the bed with Cassie.
“Aurelia, wait…it's not what it seems, I…” Cassie stuttered she got down from the bed, trying to cover her body with the bed sheets.
“So it's true? You meant it when you told me you wanted my friend instead? I trusted you, I loved you. You should have gone to be with her, You should have approached her, I hate you!” I growled, pointing at Laurent.
“Babe— wait, I'm sorry… I— we…” Laurent stammered as he stood up to quickly put on his shorts. His d**k was still very hard and pointed towards me. I couldn't trace any atom of remorse on his face, he still definitely wanted to get back to f*****g my best friend!
I stomped out of the room, they both came hurrying after me.
“We have something important to tell you...” Cassie called out.
I sensed some sort of happiness in her words. I turned immediately and charged towards her with so much fury.
“What is this madness!? You f****d my boyfriend and you're smiling to me!?” I grasped, irritated as hell.
I paced about the house, I couldn't make sense of anything, I've had these two people for long, I've been through hell and back with both of them. How long has this been going on? Have they been doing this right under my nose? How long have they laughed at my stupidity and blindness?
“I have been wanting to tell you but…Uhmm… Laur— we—ahem! Laurent and I are engaged and we're expecting a baby!” Cassie blurted, her words sounded like it was the day of rapture.
The whole place went silent for a minute.
“What? Yeah right! This has to be some sort of joke! You— you're trying to pull my legs right? You have a boyfriend—Montclair, so what are you saying?…” I said trying to grasp the air.
“Yeah, Montclair and I have been going through tough times but, he doesn't matter anyways.” she said.
“We'll be moving in together in a new apartment—” came Laurent.
“Shut the f**k up you son of a b***h! I f*****g loved you! Every inch of your imperfections— I gave you everything, and, and this is how you treat me? Announcing to me that you're having a baby with my best friend? You're such a looser!” I cried out.
The world fell on my shoulders— I badly needed to disappear, but it felt as though those two monsters were hellbent on frustrating my life that very moment. They've been f*****g and now, she's three weeks pregnant, and engaged? How could they…
“Okay then, I'm very happy for you both. I do not want to be a stumbling block to your happiness.” I sniffed, wiping tears off my cheeks.
“Aurelia, I'm really sorry. This wasn't how we planned all these to happen, I swear.” Cassie stuttered as she tried to feign sadness, but I could see through her pretense.
“I’d really like to find out about how Montclair will feel about this good news,” I smiled, nodding my head as though I was threatening them with a good time. Montclair has been the one taking care of Cassie's bills ever since she lost her parents on a ghastly motor accident. Why then would Cassie decide to settle for a broke Laurent?
“Don't you dare mention this to Montclair!” Cassie charged at me pointing to me with her index finger. That wasn't the Cassie I knew.
“Oh!” was what I could say, I was taken back by her words.
“Haven't you had enough fill of your own happiness? You've practically taken everything away from me! If you dare tell Montclair about this, I promise you, you won't like how this will play out.” Cassie threatened as she hurried back to her room.
I was too stunned to speak. Never did I ever dream that I would be a witness to such embarrassment. Laurent stood in front of me with his hands akimbo, trying to find his voice.
“You—you know, you should’ve told me you had a party to go to, I’m sure your motive was to get a better boyfriend than I am.” Laurent spat out as he turned to leave.
“You’re a bloody fool!” I snapped, and shamefully stomped out.
**************************************************
I rushed into the dark streets. I was lost in my own thoughts, the roads were empty, and felt like a cemetery.
‘We are expecting a baby.’
Her words replayed in my head a million times, I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs. It would've been better if we were strangers— the two people I loved dearly, put my face in the mud.
“Okay, since we’re now behaving mad, I’d really like to have a word with your super rich boyfriend that you claim to love so much.” I muttered to myself, heading straight back to the club.
A black Mercedes SUV pulled up and swirled right in front of me.
“Señorita, why are you alone at this deadly hour, hmm?” A strange man from the driver's seat said with a smirk on his face.
“She looks like she lost her mama. Oops! She actually did.” another man said, and they both burst into a loud wicked laughter and drove off.
It was the same men from the club earlier— one of them, Lance, was introduced to me by Montclair. What did they mean by ‘lost her mama.’?
“No— no!” I whispered, taking my shoes in my hands as I ran back home. Were they the bad men that my mother was bickering about? Was it a coincidence or stunt?
It was exactly thirty minutes since I left Cassie's house. I still couldn't find a ride to take home. My heart was pounding in my chest. I ran about four kilometers to get home. The entrance door to our apartment was wide open and I heard groans that sounded like my mother's.
“Mother!” I called out to her, while I rushed up the first floor.
I found my mother laying still in the pool of her own blood, with bruises and blisters all over her body— she wasn't able to move a finger.
“Oh my god! Mother, what happened to you!?” I cried out, lifting her off the floor to the bed.
“Aurelia…” My mother whispered.
“Mother, who did this?” I grasped for air as I stared round the house in utter disbelief, trying to make sense of our predicament.
“Please be careful, my baby…stay away from…” My mother whispered, her eyes closed and her body slowly went cold.
“Mother? Mother? Wake up!” I yelled, as my voice echoed through our almost empty apartment.
