Harvey walked back to her house from the woods, the encounter in the woods still on her mind.
“The audacity of wolves, after so long they are still the same. Sneaking up from behind and beheading their targets,” she hissed, talking to herself.
The house was already set up for the banquet when she arrived. She felt another rush of headache fall upon her. She had full memory of both her past life and new life, not only that but she felt the owner of this body's emotions and love for her family. It affected her reasoning, in her last life she didn't have a conscience, at least not a strong one.
Witches were heartless, we wiped out generations without a hint of guilt but now she felt guilty for not wanting to be a part of her family scheme.
So far, she knows she's in the 19th century. Exactly a century since she first died, the wolves ruled this generation with humans second in command and witches had gone extinct, at least that's what she thought till the woods.
Witches were still out there and they were fighting back, it definitely wasn't a mistake that she was reincarnated at this time. It was certainly ordained. She felt the magic in the wolf, whoever was controlling them was a part of my clan. The only problem now was finding them without my powers to help.
“Harvey,” a girl hung her arms around me, it was my immediate elder sister, Carla. She was beaming at me and she couldn't help but smile back. The movement made my soul cringe.
“Where have you been? The banquet is about to start!” Harvey had always seen through the mask her sister had on, she hated that she had to provide for them and she always wished to take her position and bear the burden instead.
Harvey allowed her to drag her to wherever she was going, they went into a room she remembered was the servant's quarter where they often played when they were younger.
“I know what you did last night,” she was talking about the suicide. “If you can't bear it again, just let us know and we'll run away together. You can't go jumping off buildings. Suicide?” Her cheeks reddened, “You made peace with dying and leave me to mourn for you,” her tears fell and Harvey's eyes watered, her insides clenching.
“I'm sorry,” Harvey's voice was barely above a whisper. Carla engulfed her in a tight hug that Rose would have killed anyone who tried that with her, Harvey hugged her back. The feeling foreign to her.
Carla remained in her arms, crying her eyes. Some droplets of tears also fell from Harvey's eyes and she swore to make sure she helps this family. As payment for using this body. But how was she going to do it? She had no money and anything she had in her previous life would have been gone 100 years later.
Harvey had never felt more useless than she did now. There was no time to suck or waste, she needed to act quick. To find her clan and replay her debt.
They separated not long after and the banquet started, people came in with extravagant dressing and gifts. This family was definitely not poor but still suffered one of their own because there wasn't a boy amongst them, his first wife for that matter. The cruelty of man never ceased to amaze the witch.
“Harvey,” her father's second wife, walked in proud easy steps. She was beautiful to behold and her heart was as wicked as her face was pretty.
“Elide,” Harvey greeted with a distant respectful smile. “It's a beautiful banquet isn't it?” She smiled but Harvey knew it was fake.
“Your step sister is really a beauty, isn't she?” Harvey nodded. “I told your father not to throw such an expensive banquet for her coming of age but he just wouldn't have it. He said his entire wealth is hers and her brother’s,” she laughed heartily.
“You know Calvin would inherit everything, your father finds him extremely worthy. Don't worry, I'll make sure he's good to you, your mother and your sisters even though you all don't deserve it.”
“Thank you ma'am, but that won't be necessary.” “What ever do you mean child?” “We wouldn't be needing your help, matter of fact, we'll be leaving soon,” Harvey made to leave but Elide pulled her back.
“You insolent child. Don't you dare try anything stupid or you'll regret it. This entire wealth belongs to Calvin and there's nothing you can do about it. You're just a weak pathetic son of a first wife that holds no regard in her husband's eyes. If you-”
“If you're so confident in your child, why are you attacking me?” “I'm just warning you, don't do anything stupid!”
Harvey walked off without replying to her. She moved about the room, surveying the crowd when someone's family caught her gaze. “The guy from the woods,” she mumbled and stared at him.
He cleaned up before coming, he was dressed in a beautiful green tunic and a large cape around his neck flowing along the floor. His face was stern and his eyes were sharp as he looked around, he had a bright gold crown resting leisurely on his head. The loose clothes didn't hide his muscles.
“He's hot isn't he?” Aminat, her oldest sister snuck up behind her. “He looks vain.” “He could be vain all he wanted. He's the ruler of the entire empire. The alpha and emperor.” Harvey's brows upped in surprise.
“Nice,” she replied casually, her eyes trailing off to him again.
Halfway through the banquet, the alpha got up to make an announcement.
“In front of everyone present, I would like to announce something very important to me,” his eyes ran across the entire room before landing on Harvey's father, Malik.
“If esteem Malik would consent, I would like to ask for the hand of one of your children in marriage.”
