I am not sure why I suddenly felt so nervous. It was just Darcy, my boyfriend that I had been with for a few years now... but still there were those nervous butterflies in my stomach.
Standing in the middle of the room, listening first to the front door open, then steady determined steps as he walked through the house.
With every step he took, the more nervous I felt.
When he finally stepped into the room, all the air in my lungs disappeared, and I was left there standing like a fish out of water. For a few seconds, it felt like time stopped and, like a slow motion movie, I watched him walk into the room.
How come he looked even better than before?
The suit he was wearing fit him so well. I knew that it was made especially for him, because most of his clothing was made especially for him.
He looked breath taking in it and all I could do was stear at him and eat devour him with my eyes. The problem was that I knew that he looked way better without the suit, and it would only be a question of time until I could see him naked once again. That in probably a few hours I will not only see him naked, but I will also be able to touch him again.
"Val..."
My name on his lips sounded so deliciously beautiful and only when I heard him say it, did I finally take a breath in.
Before I knew what I was doing, I ran towards him, and he caught me, pulling me into his chest. His hands wrapped around me and all I could do was enjoy his closeness, the way his arms warped around me so tightly. My face went into his neck where I breathed his genteel scent, it alone made the last few days fade away. As it filled my lungs, all shitty things that happened to me faded away and all I could concentrate on was how happy I was to have him this close to me.
"I missed you."
My voice sounded like a tinny whisper and I knew that he was the only one that could hear me say this. Slowly, he lowered me to the ground, while still keeping his hands around me.
"I missed you too, darling."
He whispered back to me as he laid a soft kiss on the top of my head. I lifted my head from his neck and met his eyes. We stared at each other for a few moments just drinking with each other, and it was completely perfect. There was no denying how much I missed him, but I am not sure who was the first to move as we both leaned in for a kiss. The moment our lips met, I felt like I was in heaven. His taste on my lips and the warmth from them were undeniable. His hands moved from my back to my head as he carefully wrapped his fingers around my face, holding me in place as he deepened the kiss.
I was drowning in it and there is nowhere else that I would rather be than here right now. The annoyance and anger I felt towards him was long forgotten, only this moment existed and how happy I felt to be here right now.
After a few moments of this sweet kiss, we did finally release one another and took a moment to breathe. Carefully, he pressed his forehead against mine as we just stood there drinking in each other's warmth.
"I missed you so much..."
He whispered again, and I could not help myself but chuckle at his words.
"Yeah, you mentioned that already."
Slowly, I opened my eyes again and stared at him.
He looked a lot more tired than I had seen him before. There was this darkness around him that I could not recognize and generally something seemed off.
"Are... are you okay?"
I whispered with my voice filled with concern.
When he heard my question, his eyes popped open instantly, and he stared at me. For a moment there was a flash of something in his eyes, but before I could fully read it or understand, he chased it away.
"Yeah, just tired and I really missed you."
He wrapped his hands around me once again, burying his face in my hair. A part of me wanted to fight him and ask more about what was bothering him, but I did not have it in me to do that right now, so I buried my face in his chest, just swimming in his warmth.
We stood like that for a few moments until we were interrupted by a loud fake cough.
I pulled my face from his chest and turned in the direction of the sound. There stood Colin. For some reason, I felt quite embarrassed that he saw me like that.
"Yes?"
Darcy's body language change the moment he saw who was interrupting us. His back stiffened, and his voice sounded deeper and a lot more assertive.
"Can we talk for a moment before the guests arrive? I want to debrief you on all that has happened in person, because I am leaving this evening."
"You are not staying for the party?"
The question left my mouth before I could even think what I was saying.
"Sorry princess, I have to return to my pack. I have already spent way too long away from them and I hate that. Also, Alisha is tired, and it would be best for her to rest at home before her treatment starts."
His face softened as he talked to me, but when his eyes traveled up to meet Darcie's he was back in his alpha mode.
"Okay, I guess... but can you please make sure that Alisha comes to say goodbye before you leave."
He nodded softly as he answered.
"I will tell her that, not that I think she would have left without telling you."
There was no stopping the soft smile on my face when I heard that, but when it was clear that our discussion had ended, he turned to Darcy again.
"Okay, can we go now?"
"Sure. Darling, can you wait for me in your room? I will come to get you as soon as I am done with him."
For that moment, it felt like his complete attention was on me and I could not be happier about it.
Slowly, I made a tiny nod as I stepped out of his arms.
"Umm... I will be waiting for you in the room down the hall from my bedroom."
Confused, he stared at me for a moment.
"Why? Why not in your room?"
"Well, because I no longer have a room in this house, but we can talk about it latter, now go do your business."
With those words, I turned around to leave, so the two of them could have a moment to talk.
