Family breakfast II

My eyes followed my mother and Alisha as they left the room. To my surprise, my mother slowed her pace to match Alisha's and wrapped her hand around Alisha's upper arm. It was strange to see my mother act so soft with someone, that was never a side of her that I saw before. But I guess the little ball of pure sunshine had drawn out a new side to my mother. The moment doors closed after them, I was left alone with two alphas... great. If I was sure that the tension was strong before... now it has jumped to new levels. The moment the two lunas left the room, it felt like they took the last bits of calm air with them. And it left me in the crossfire. I have to get out of here before they start again and I will be dragged into all this. "Well, thank you for a lovely breakfast..." I started saying while slowly rising to my feet, but before I could fully stand up, both of their eyes shot up at me. "Valery, sit down." Fuck. I really hoped that he would just ignore me like usual and let me. Without any other choice, I sat back down. "I am sure you have questions as to why you were picked up by Colin and not by our gammas." "Yes, that was strange, especially when I had no idea who he was and that he was going to be the one taking me home." As I said that, my eyes turned back to Colin and I found him staring at me. He had this strange look on his face. But I did not have the chance to concentrate on it, because my father continued to talk. "Yes, that must have raised a few questions..." "A few? You sent a complete stranger to take me home. Even more, a completely unfamiliar alfa. I should not have left with him at all." My father ignored me and just continued to talk. "As to who he was?" "I gave her the basics she needed to know." Colin's calm, low voice filled the room and, if I was not mistaken, there were clear notes of a threat in his voice. That was very stupid and brave of him... interesting. This man either had balls the size of the moon or he was completely crazy... I would bet my money on the latter one. "Well I am sure he told you his name... but I think you know him better by nickname... Executioner." When I heard that name my whole body went cold. Did my father just say Executioner? As in the mercenary that every alpha called when they needed someone to be killed? As in a man that has taken hundreds of lives and is known for never failing a job, never saying no to a job no matter how f****d up it is? My eyes shot back to Colin. I had never imagined how the Executioner looked, but... I guess there is this complete darkness in him that suits that name. Especially now that he was shooting daggers at my father. I would be lying if I said that he doesn't seem like the type to kill someone in cold blood. Actually, thinking about it now, I am sure that he is more than capable of that. The more I looked at him with these thoughts in my mind, the clearer it was that my father was telling the truth... not that there was any reason for him to lie. I could not help myself as I swallowed hard and stared at him. "And why did you employ an executioner to take me home? I am sure that home deliveries of this kind is not his specialty... except if you did not want me to get home?" My eyes shot back to my father as the idea that the Executioner was here to end me crossed my mind. "He is not here to kill you. I have no use of you if you are dead. And we both know that your little boyfriend, alpha to be, would probably wage war on me if I let anything happen to you while you are in my care. The deal with his pack itself is more then worth it to keep you alive." Well, that sounded very reassuring. But I guess Darcy is protecting me without even being here. "He is the only one that can protect you right now." My mind turned to the conversation I had with Colin but the dinner. "From who exactly is he supposed to protect me from? Why can't your men do it?" "Because they don't stand a chance against the enemies we are facing. There is so many hits on you right now that it would take my whole army to protect you and even then there is a great chance that they would fail and die." I stared at my father and, for the first time in a very long time, there was no irony or sarcasm in his voice. He was completely serious. "Who has the hit on me?" "We don't know, but the school have sent us reports of the attacks that they stopped so far, and your boyfriend had a few that his people stopped." I stared at the now cold coffee cup as my mind started to race. For how long has this been going on for? Why is this happening? Why did Darcy never mention anything? "How long?" "It started two weeks after the announcement of your mating ceremony that it would be held on your birthday." Half a year? I had to take open-mouthed breaths, because nausea started to rise so fast that I almost threw up. For the past six months, there was a kill ordered on me and no one ever told me anything... f*****g great. "So do yourself a favor and do not leave his side under any circumstances. That is an order from your alpha." After saying that, he just rose to his feet and walked out of the dining room.
