Traveling home IV

His words angered me more than I expected. Sure what he was saying was more or less true and we both knew it, but I guess getting it pointed out from the side... it hits an already sore spot. Frustrated, I pushed myself out of the booth and walked outside. I needed a moment to breathe before I lashed out and did something as stupid as to fight him or change into my wolf. This would cause chaos and I would get scolded by my father later. Taking deep breaths, I paced the front of the coffee shop as Colin followed me out of the dinner. "Did you get that offended by my comment?" He looked at me with one eyebrow lifted. "What?" I answered him with a much rougher tone than needed. "Wow, princess, there is no need to bite my head off. It was just a joke." I bliked a few times and stared at him, traying to understand what the hell he is talking about. "What? So you are saying that there aren't people following us and you just made it up?" He stared at me, looking even more confused. "No, there are, I was talking about you not needing to worry and implying that you are incapable of taking care of yourself and that I will protect you." "What? That is your job, to protect me and that is not why I am angry." He stared at me for one more moment and then chuckled. "Okay, so wanna tell me why you just ran out of there like a fire-breathing dragon that I just pissed off?" Slowly, he leaned against the wall of the dinner and looked at me patiently, waiting for my explanation. "It's a bit stupid." "Well, most of the time when you get pissed off, it is for stupid reasons. So talk." I took a few deep breaths and stopped in front of him. "I'm pissed at this whole situation. Every time I feel like I get away from all the political games, they suck me back in. My union with Darcy is not one for political gain..." When I said that, a little chuckle came from Colin and I turned to him. It was clear that he was about to correct me. I lifted my hand to stop him before he even started. "It is not for either of us. Neither of our parents really wanted us to be together. It took months of convincing until they agreed to acknowledge our relationship. Sure, now they see the benefits of us mating, but when we started... gods my father hated Darcys family and what it stood for. They are not pure blood like we are and, for him, I was committing the biggest sin possible. Intetionally I will tainting our pure blood. He put me though hell just because rummours of us going out reached him." Memories of all those scoldings and even hits I got from him every time this topic reached the dinner table. I shook off the pain and all those memories. "Darcy's father was no better. He hated everything that was related to pure blood. He hated the ideology and the standing pure blood had, but he was a lot more civil about it than my father. He was the first one to give in." "Real life Romeo and Juliet." Colin said and there was something in his voice that I could not put my finger on. "I guess partly, but we are not as stupid as they are. There won't be any suicides in this process. We both know how important we are to our families and we know how to use this power." "Admire your dedication, but I highly doubt that either of you could have done anything if your parents put their foot down and refused you two to date." I laughed. "It would have been easy, we would leave the packs." Colin stared at me for a moment and I was sure he wanted to say something, but he stopped himself at the last moment. "So you were pissed not because you have people trying to kill you, but because of the reasoning behind it." "Told you that it was stupid." He shook his head and laughed. "And if someone was after you because you offended them or said something they do not agree with?" "Well, that has happened before and it is far more valid and understandable than all this shit." "Wait, you are saying that you have pissed someone off to the point they tried to kill you? Impresive." "That is what happens when you are constantly surrounded by self-centered alphas." "Hey, don't forget you are talking to one of the self centered alphas." "Oh, is your little fragile ego bruised by what a mean teenager said... boo hoo..." He laughed again and shook his head. "As if any of your words have any weight on me." "Thought so." He laughed again and pushed off the wall. "Come on, let's get going before they get bold enough to attack." With a deep sight, I followed him to the bike. He handed one helmet to me and took the other one for himself. This time I was not nervous at all getting on the bike... hm... maybe I should get one... Nah, Darcy would throw a fit because it is too dangerous. Chucling to myself, I wrapped my hands around Colin's waist. The same warmth as before filled my body as his scent filled my lungs. "This time we are going all the way to your house, it will be a bit longer this time, but we have to get you home before the sun goes. I am not in the mood to drive at night with so many enemies following us." Without waiting for my answer, he pushed off the curb and we took off. Either he was driving a lot slower or maybe this time I let myself look around and enjoy the ride. And before I even knew it, we crossed my father's border and the familiar scenery greeted us. Five minutes later, we stopped in front of my father's house.
