The Tides of War

474 Words
The silence didn’t last long. Gunfire tore through the walls as Aiden and Bianca barely made it past the threshold. Sweat dripped from his brow as he turned, sights locked on the small army that had them in its grasp. Behind him, Bianca’s breathing was uneven. This wasn’t just another mission. This was war, and they were on the losing side. Another enemy ran toward him, blade flashing under the dim light. Aiden ducked, twisting his wrist and firing twice. “Son of a—how many are there?” Bianca’s voice was tight, her hand clenching around her gun. Aiden reloaded in a blur. “Too damn many.” The ground at his feet shook. There was no time— Sparks rained from above. Sweat curled into the small of his back. A New Enemy Enters the Fray Aiden sidestepped, his mind racing. The bullets weren’t random—they were calculated. Precise. This wasn’t an ambush. This was a trap, something designed to crush them before they could even fight back. “What the hell are they planning?” Bianca muttered. Aiden exhaled. This moment, it was another piece of a puzzle. There was more at stake here, more than even he was willing to say. Bianca watched him. “Aiden, this isn’t—” The Last Option Aiden didn’t flinch. He stepped into battle like a ghost, his presence a calculated nightmare. Bianca didn’t move. Blood dripped from her arm, but she didn’t flinch. She was used to pain. The second shots tore through the air, deafening. The mission was lost. The situation was slipping through their fingers. “Aiden,” Bianca’s voice was hoarse. “If we don’t do something now—” He already knew. Reaching up, he wiped the grime off his face. A sound broke the silence. They were surrounded. Bianca inhaled. The air was suffocating. As the Battle Closes She knew fighting was suicide. Aiden braced himself. The door behind them was still an option. There was no choice to be made. This was it. Somewhere behind them, another round of bullets ripped through the air. Aiden moved first. Swift, brutal, and final. He shot twice, Bianca mirroring his movement. The fight didn’t stop. Steel met steel, bodies moving like shadows. Blood speckled the floor. The mission had failed. At least, that’s what it seemed. A War Still Unfinished Behind them, the entire process was still in motion. They didn’t have time to process it. Aiden knew. Bianca knew. But there was something in the air. Something worse. Something far from over. She looked at him. “Aiden, if we don’t leave now—” One second, one moment, one mistake. Before Bianca could react, another shadow blurred in, a hand curling around her wrist. Aiden’s voice rang out. Bianca gasped. The story was far from over.
