Chapter 28:
I wake up the next morning, drive the girls to school as usual and then go to the hospital. Joel and Rob are both awake when I arrive. Joel looks and feels a lot better aside from the soreness and pain from the healing cuts they had to make to remove and replace his kidney. Rob is in the hospital for the next two to three days and then has to come back for a follow-up after. But he seems to be in good spirits despite everything. Charlotte has been calling non-stop on his phone since he left, every four or five hours like clockwork. It isn’t like Rob has any obligation to bring the kids back or be in the house, the kids have clearly sided with someone and that someone is not Charlotte, they’re also old enough to make their choices about who they live with.
