Serene The ride home was long and filled with silence. But once we crossed into Roman boundaries, I stopped Agnar. “I want to trek into the market. I need to see my mother.” He nodded once in acceptance. “I'll have one of the men come pick you up.” “No need for that. I'll find my way back. Thank you,” I said and watched as he drove away, kicking dust, then turned and headed towards the market. I knew I was a bad daughter for neglecting her for this long, but I knew I couldn't pay her attention when I still had Roman’s matter at hand. Now, that was over.
