Lara couldn't shake the feeling that Alex had left an indelible mark on her. As she drifted off to sleep that night, she felt like she was floating on a cloud, her heart still racing from their encounter. She decided that her mind was too filled up with Alex, so she was going to stop thinking about him. As the night progressed, Lara's dreams took a darker turn. She found herself running through a dense forest, the trees looming above her like skeletal fingers. She could hear the sound of footsteps behind her, but no matter how fast she ran, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being pursued. Suddenly, Lyra appeared beside her, her eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. "Lara, you're in danger," Lyra whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of Lara's own heartbeat. Lara tried to respond, but her voice was frozen in her throat. Lyra's eyes seemed to bore into her soul, and Lara felt like she was being pulled into a vortex of fear and uncertainty. She woke up with a start, her heart pounding in her chest. It took her a few moments to realize that it was just a dream, but the memory of Lyra's haunting eyes lingered, leaving her with a sense of unease. As she got ready for work, Lara decided that it was just a dream and nothing more. And then, just as she was leaving for work, in the morning, Arachne stopped her in the doorway. "Lara, I need to talk to you about something," Arachne said, her voice low and serious. Lara felt a shiver run down her spine. What did Arachne want to talk to her about? And why did she look so serious? “Sit my dear” The older lady gestured with her hands Lara sat down on their old, worn-out couch. She sat down beside her, the younger woman “I know you have been having troubles with work, and I know you have been lying to me. I just don't understand why you won't tell me.” She stretched her hands and held Lara's palm in a firm grip using her thumb to run comforting circles “Arachne, I am sorry that I lied. I didn't want to leave you troubled” Lara's cheeks became stained with tears “I know, but this is serious, Lara. If Val didn't tell me, I would never have known, I have known you since you were a little girl. I know you think you are too timid or too shy or too afraid, but I know you can grow out of this nature and be able to protect yourself and not let anyone bully you. What if you are too afraid to protect yourself and someone ends up bullying you and killing you. We should send those men to prison. They can't keep doing this to you. “ “I understand Arachne. Nothing would happen to me. I am stuck with you for a long time.” Arachne pulled her into a warm hug, and Lara cried till she felt better At the bar, Lara's coworkers were buzzing with excitement. "Hey, Lara, have you heard the news?" asked Emily. Lara shook her head, curiosity getting the better of her. "What news?" "Kael's hired a new bartender, two of them actually," Emily replied, her eyes sparkling with gossip. "His name is Finn, and he's supposed to be some kind of mixology genius." The other is a nerdy boy who would come to work the night shift Lara raised an eyebrow, intrigued. She had never met a bartender who was also a mixology expert. Maybe this Finn guy would be someone interesting to talk to. On the upside, her boss hiring another bartender would add to their workforce. “Also he has hired more bouncers” Emily's eyes danced excitedly. “They are so muscular and strong.” “How would you know?” “Aren't bouncers normally strong” Emily's eyebrows brows were raised in confusion “Oh that was true.” She responded with a smile and went on refilling the bottles by the bar. As the morning wore on, Lara found herself glancing around the bar, wondering when Finn would arrive. She was about to give up hope when a tall, dark-haired man walked in, his eyes scanning the room with a confident air. "Hey, I'm Finn," he said, flashing a charming smile at Lara. "I'm the new bartender. Sorry I am late “ Lara smiled back, feeling a spark of curiosity. She was normally a curious person. Now, they were three working the day shift. Aria was taking an art class right now; they would meet later for their pedicure. It was morning, and most people were home, so Emily had taken an excuse to leave early and be back later to work through the night shift. Finn was at the bar counter. She was with Lyra discussing. When Alex walked in today, he was just with another muscular guy with black hair. This had to be the brother she thought. He approached her, and Finn came to serve them. He told her not to worry. “Hi I am Lara's friend” “Hi, I am Alex. Oliver meet Lara. This is my brother.” Oliver smiled at her curtly, and then he gazed at Lyra, taking her features in. Yep, she was definitely right. Focused on Alex’s smile, she didn't miss the way Oliver smiled at her friend, and soon they began having conversations. She got to know that Alex and Oliver ran a clothing store, a huge one at that, and Lyra promised to bring her for a shopping spree. Where she would find the money was a mystery. ********** Lyra sat in her small, cluttered apartment, staring into the crystal ball that sat on her coffee table. She had been having visions for weeks, ever since Lara had started working at the bar. She refused to think about those just yet. She turned to looking at the elderly woman knitting beside her “So, I met my fated mate today mum” “Who is he?” her mum replied, excited “Well he is a werewolf” She dropped her knitting needle and the half-finished bag, her eyes grave with a warning. "Lyra, you know the danger werewolves and witches can never be together.” “Well that is what you have been telling me since I was little yet he is my mate why? “ Lyra was annoyed Her mum placed her palms on her short blonde hair, stroking it softly “I don't have the answers to that, dear, but you can not be with him it is too dangerous” “I understand mother” she sighed ***** “Lara, your nails are lovely. I am guessing Aria is responsible for it” “Yes Arachne, I have to indulge her. You told me too” “Well that is lovely. I have just the thing that would go with those nails.” She handed her a blue and white bag she had knitted “Oh I love this. It is so pretty, thank you. Your knitting had greatly improved” “You are welcome.” Arachne smiled and hugged her before retreating to her room. Lara's legs seemed to move off their own accord, leading her to a room that felt familiar yet elusive. A crystal ball sat on a table, spinning slowly as someone's fingers hovered above it. "Come here, Lara," a voice called out to her. Without control, her feet moved closer. As she approached, she locked eyes with Lyra, her friend, and Arachne stood beside her. A bubbling cauldron emitted wisps of smoke. "I'm brewing your potion, dear," Arachne said. "I won't have my daughter falling ill." Lara tried to respond, but her voice was stuck in her throat. Lyra's fingers beckoned, and a glass floated through the air, coming to rest in her hand. "Take it, sister," Lyra said. "I need you to be fine." As Lara gazed into the glass, she saw her normally blue eyes had turned red. She screamed, and her eyes snapped open. She glanced around, recognizing her own room. It was just a dream. Lyra was her friend, and Arachne was a kind woman who had taken her in. Her imagination had simply run wild. In the next room, a crystal ball was spinning on its axis. Arachne’s eyes pierced the ball, watching as Lara settled into a peaceful slumber.
