The Wish Game

Overview

In the year 1350, humans discovered the true heavenly magic ‘Caelum’. It was something way too incomprehensible to the human mind, something that was said to be made by the Gods upon the first gaze. With it came a prophecy, “Mastery over the true heavenly magic shall bring unbeknownst glory and prosperity to the master and his people.”

For many years to come, research was initiated into the origin and working of the magic. But before the research could be completed, a war broke out for control over the magic. The war lasted for around 300 years before peace settled in the year 1650.

A lot of changes have been introduced in the world to ensure lasting peace. Every seven years since then, a grand event is organized in the floating artificial island ‘Atlantis’. Representatives of all countries are selected from amongst the general populace.

Due to human considerations, only children from ages 16 to 20 were considered for the selection process. The country whose representative won the event was selected as the world leader for the next seven years and the representative was allowed to make any wish to Caelum. The World Indic Conjure Company or WIC Company was given the custody of Caelum.

It is the year 1999 and all the nations are preparing for the thirty-fifth Wish Game. In order to make up for the tedious selection procedure, many countries allied themselves with others to form groups.

There are seven such international groups – North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Indo-Pacific and Middle-East. Every group sent three to four representatives each time and the benefits were extended to all members of the group without any discrimination.
